As a full-time Senior Tax Manager, you’ll be an essential part of our team by completing complex tax engagements for our customers, ensuring financial statements and tax returns are accurate, and providing support and advice to our client service teams.

About the Role

Tax Engagements - You’ll support our client base by scoping, completing, and reviewing complex tax engagements, including restructurings, rollovers, estate freezes, and purchase and sale agreements. See below for examples of engagements you'll be expected to handle.
Expert Support - You’ll be one of our go-to tax experts for our client services team when they need guidance, advice, and support.
Research & Documentation - You’ll stay on top of changes to tax laws, develop and maintain our tax policies, and update the wider team on important developments by running monthly teaching sessions.
Mentorship - You’ll lead a small team of tax associates, managing their workloads, providing constructive feedback, and teaching them the ins-and-outs of Canadian tax.
Quality Assurance - You’ll review and sign off on tax returns, financials, and tax audit correspondence to ensure we’re delivering the best work we can.
About You

Expert - You’re an experienced CPA who has recently worked in a tax-focused role with lots of exposure to complex tax engagements. US tax and SR&ED experience is a plus.
Personable - You’re personable and have great communication skills. Your writing is clear and concise, but not robotic.
Leader - You're able to mentor other team members and are comfortable providing feedback.
Motivated - You enjoy working outside your comfort zone and challenging yourself with new types of customers and engagements.
Accountable - You don’t shy away from accountability. You like to get your hands dirty to get things done and take full responsibility to ensure the quality of work is high and deadlines are met.
Independent - You can remain focused and diligent while working remotely. You're comfortable making decisions on your own and are confident in your ability to provide sound tax advice directly to clients.
Techy - You know your way around a computer and enjoy researching and learning new applications.

Example Engagements

Sale of a business
  • Advise the client on the implications of the proposed possible sale structure and terms.
  • Create a memo for shareholders outlining a tax-efficient plan to distribute the proceeds from the sale.
  • Complete related compliance, forms, and disclosures.
Purchase of a business
  • Complete tax-related due diligence.
  • Analyze the proposed possible purchase structure and terms.
  • Carry out the plan and complete related compliance.
  • Introduce holding companies and/or family trusts to achieve minimization and deferral of tax.
  • ESOP analysis and calculation of equity holder payouts.
  • Filing of payroll forms with stock option benefits reporting for participating employees.
