About Us
Melody Thomas Music Studio is a welcoming and supportive community where passionate and curious musicians come to learn, grow, and play! For over 13 years, MTMS has been a trusted name in music education across central Eastern Ontario. We've been proud to be voted Best Music Lessons by The Peterborough Examiner, Peterborough This Week, and Community Votes.
We’re currently seeking an Associate Voice Teacher to join our thriving team and continue providing exceptional instruction to our growing student base. This role is ideal for a skilled vocalist who loves working with learners of all ages and is excited to grow within a collaborative and creative environment.
About the Position
This position involves teaching in-person, private voice lessons to students aged 8 and up, with a strong focus on contemporary vocal styles. Your students will be mostly beginner and intermediate singers aged 8-17 across a variety of genres including pop, musical theatre, R&B, jazz, and classical, depending on your background.
As a member of our team, you’ll be supported through mentorship, provided with resources and guidance, and given opportunities to grow both professionally and artistically.
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applicants from diverse musical and cultural backgrounds. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching, open to continued learning, and committed to student growth.
We’re less concerned with where you learned and more focused on what you know - if you have a solid handle on how your voice works and love sharing that with others, we want to hear from you.
We’re seeking someone who is enthusiastic, open to learning, and adaptable in their teaching approach. The ideal candidate is eager to grow professionally and willing to be mentored in aligning their pedagogical style with our studio’s values and goals.
This position is best suited for someone who shares our studio’s core values:
We are actively inclusive and affirming of 2SLGBTQIA+ students, students of colour, and neurodivergent students. The right candidate will not only respect but celebrate the diversity of our student community.
Required Qualifications & Attributes:
- Strong vocal ability and musicianship, including basic music literacy (you don’t need to be a sight-reading wizard, but you should understand the fundamentals)
- Basic piano proficiency (no need to be an accompanist!)
- Clear and professional communication
- Reliable, punctual, and well-organized
- Patient, encouraging, and positive with students
- Actively inclusive and affirming of students of all backgrounds
- Comfortable connecting with children and teenagers on their level
- Available to teach in-person in Peterborough
- Willing to teach online occasionally in case of illness or weather
Assets (Not Required):
- Previous teaching experience
- Music degree or a related background in performing arts or education
- Experience with a variety of vocal styles (musical theatre, pop, classical, etc.)
- Ability to teach repertoire in multiple languages
- Willingness to teach beginner adults
Successful applicants will be required to complete a police background check following the interview stage.
