Meet Benevity
Benevity's award-winning corporate purpose software empowers companies and their people to take social action on the issues and causes they care about. Through giving, volunteering, grantmaking and positive actions, we help 650+ clients (and counting!) build better cultures and engage their employees and customers to create greater social and business impact. We're also one of the first B-Corps in Canada, meaning we're as committed to purpose as we are to profits.
At Benevity, design the change you want to see in the world.
The Product Experience team is growing, and we have a fantastic opportunity for Senior Product Designers on our Discovery team. We have a clear product vision, we have large and progressive clients, and we have relationships with non-profit organizations all over the world - all we are missing is you!
Take some time to read through this job posting, and if your passions and experience match what we have laid out here, please consider applying. Experience comes in many forms: skills are transferable, and passion goes a long way.
The challenges we'll face together:
As a Senior Product Designer, you will be part of an empowered product team applying your experience and skills to designing solutions that meet our product outcome. Some of the problems you will be helping solve include:
Redefine our search experience. There are many ways to impact the non-profit organizations our users care about. We have to find the best way to deliver these opportunities to our users.
Design a robust browse experience which will enable our clients to discover new causes and new ways to get involved.
Imagine how we might weave content discovery experiences into other areas of our Benevity ecosystem and beyond.
If you are...
Someone with proven experience designing products that achieve tangible outcomes within a digital-first product organization. You can see the big picture and work on the details.
Then you can expect...
The work-life balance and autonomy to do your job well. The problems and opportunities we face are vast. We need you to recharge your batteries however that looks like for you. Do you enjoy the social aspect of office life? We have offices in Calgary, Toronto and Victoria. Would you like to work fully or partially remote? You do what's right for you.
If you are...
Someone passionate about design and can lead with the humility to adapt. You can demonstrate the ability to use various methods to get the most out of all phases of design thinking.
Then you can expect...
You will get better at design. Product design is a large spectrum from early discovery to pixel pushing. We all have areas where we are strong and areas that zap our energy (hint: there will be a question about this in one of the interviews). With a team of about a dozen product designers and double that on the Product Experience team, your learning opportunities will be limited only by your curiosity.
If you are...
A cultural contributor to the teams and companies you work with. You bring your authentic self to work and expect others to do the same. You build strong, inclusive, collaborative relationships with peers, including designers, product managers, developers, and cross-functional team members. You start from a place of curiosity, seek out feedback from everyone, and foster a space where everyone can participate.
Then you can expect...
A place where you belong. You will likely find all sorts of communities to be a part of, from fun places where you can post cute pictures of your dog to more impactful groups, like our Belonging Champions or Benevity Pride. If you spot a gap, start your own group; with 1000 employees and counting, there are likely others like you waiting for someone to put their hand up first. For example, at Benevity, "we are we" is not just something we say but how we show up to work every day.
As a Sr. Product Designer at Benevity, you will:
Report directly to a Portfolio Manager and be responsible for the design quality of your product area.
Work collaboratively with your PM and Engineering peers to uncover and design solutions to our most complex granting problem spaces.
Conduct UX research to uncover and define the problems and evaluate the usability of what you have created.
Ensure that your product area meets the highest standards of accessibility and inclusiveness.
Have regular conversations with your manager and director about your personal growth as a designer.
Our interview process:
Our hiring process is designed to be a good experience for you and us. We don't believe that design exercises accurately demonstrate your abilities as a designer to execute your craft day today. Instead, we focus on understanding the Why, What, and How you achieved the outcomes you have as a designer. After being contacted by the Benevity people team for an introductory call, you can expect:
Initial interview with our design manager and team members focused on how your skills match our job posting (60-90 min)
The In-depth Portfolio presentation where you share a deep dive into your past work (90 minutes)
