The Finance Accountant will play a key role in the overall financial management of Niginan Housing Ventures by managing the finance team, providing financial reports as needed, managing the financial approval process, and ensuring financial coding is current to contractual obligations. The financial manager will work with the financial controller to ensure all financial processes are in accordance with the Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Management of Finance Team: Supervise and lead the finance team, overseeing all day-to-day financial operations ensuring smooth and efficient processes.
2. Bank Reconciliations: Oversee and perform monthly bank reconciliations, ensuring data is accurate and any discrepancies are promptly identified and investigated.
3. Payments to CRA: Process and ensure timely payments to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), maintain updated knowledge of regulatory requirements and liaise with government officials as needed.
4. Pension Plan/Benefit Plan Management: Manage the administration of the company's pension and benefit plans, ensuring they effectively meet the long-term needs of our employees. Keep up to date with relevant regulatory changes and communicate these with all participants.
5. Client Comfort Fund Management: Manage the administration of the client comfort fund, ensure proper allocation and utilization in line with the agency's objectives. This includes assessing needs, managing fund disbursements, and achieving financial accountability and reporting.
6. Data Entry and Accuracy: Take responsibility for overseeing and ensuring accurate data entry into the financial systems. Maintain a high standard of data integrity and security, conducting regular audits to identify and rectify any discrepancies. Collaborate with the finance team to streamline data entry processes and implement best practices.
7. Financial Oversight and Strategic Planning:
Work along side with the financial controller to:
- Ensure that all financial codes are updated in line with contractual obligations.
- Develop and implement financial strategies, manage financial planning and analysis, budgeting and forecasting.
- Manage the financial approval process, inspecting budgets and cost proposals for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with agency policies and contractual obligations.
- Prepare and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, carry out variance analysis and provide detailed insights to the management and board of directors.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards, liaise with external auditors and manage internal controls.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance or related field, Master’s Degree in Finance or Business Administration is preferred.
- Must have at least seven years of financial management experience
- Experience in working with indigenous communities is an advantage
- Understanding of both statutory obligations and private sector accounting practices
- Must be proficient in QuickBooks, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other related computer programs
- A designation of Chartered Accountant is preferred; however, related experience may be considered
