Key Responsibilities
Responsive Care & Learning Environment
Provide nurturing, responsive care for infants and toddlers in accordance with Montessori and Reggio Emilia-inspired practices. Create a calm, safe, and engaging environment that supports exploration, attachment, and early learning. Maintain a clean, organized, and aesthetically prepared classroom using natural and developmentally appropriate materials.
Observation & Documentation
Observe children's development, interests, and emerging skills through daily interactions. Document learning and developmental progress, and communicate meaningful observations and updates with families. Use observations to support individualized care and learning experiences.
Relationship-Based Practice
Build trusting relationships with children and families through respectful communication and responsive caregiving. Support children's emotional well-being, self-regulation, confidence, and sense of belonging through consistent routines and individualized care.
Collaboration
Work collaboratively with a supportive team to share observations, plan engaging learning environments, discuss children's development, and participate in reflective practice. Contribute positively to a culture of professionalism, learning, and continuous improvement.
Safety & Inclusion
Provide a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all children in accordance with BC Child Care Licensing Regulations. Follow health, safety, supervision, and care routines while promoting equity, diversity, and respect for each child's unique background and needs.
Requirements & Qualifications
Certification
Valid BC ECE Infant Toddler (ECE-IT) License to Practice.
Expertise
Strong knowledge of infant and toddler development, responsive caregiving practices, attachment theory, and the BC Early Learning Framework (ELF).
Montessori Experience Preferred
Previous experience working in a Montessori environment and/or Montessori training is strongly preferred. Familiarity with Montessori principles, prepared environments, and child-led learning is considered a significant asset and may qualify candidates for a higher starting wage based on qualifications and experience.
Additional Assets
Experience with Reggio Emilia-inspired practices, pedagogical documentation, and reflective practice is considered an asset.
