About the Opportunity
Our client is a full-service public accounting firm and a proud member of one of the world’s top 15 accounting networks, with member firms in over 115 countries. The firm serves privately held businesses, entrepreneurs, high-net-worth individuals, and professional service firms across Canada and beyond, offering Bookkeeping & Payroll, Personal and Corporate Tax, Public Audit, Assurance, Government Incentives, and Advisory/Consulting services. They are currently seeking a Partner to lead their Private Enterprise practice. This is a senior leadership role for an experienced public accounting professional ready to own key client relationships, drive the strategic direction of the practice, and contribute to firm-wide growth and profitability. This position is primarily focused on Canadian private enterprise compilation, review, and tax work; experience with U.S.-connected clients, a U.S. CPA designation, and U.S. tax compliance knowledge is considered a strong asset.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Client Relationship & Advisory
Own key private enterprise client relationships
Act as a trusted business advisor to owners and management
Identify opportunities for tax, accounting, advisory, valuation, financing, succession, and other services
Participate in client planning and regular relationship reviews
Practice Leadership
Lead the Private Enterprise practice
Establish service standards, workflows, and quality expectations
Monitor capacity, deadlines, WIP, and realization
Help determine appropriate pricing and engagement structures
Technical & Quality Oversight
Review and approve significant financial statements, tax returns, and other deliverables
Ensure compliance with CPA standards, CRA requirements, and firm policies
Provide technical guidance to managers and staff
Escalate complex accounting or tax matters where appropriate
People & Development
Lead and mentor managers, senior accountants, and junior staff
Participate in hiring and performance management
Develop succession within the Private Enterprise group
Ensure appropriate delegation and review processes
Business Development & Firm Contribution
Generate new business and expand existing client relationships
Develop referral relationships with lawyers, financial advisors, bankers, and other professionals
Participate in networking and firm marketing initiatives
Contribute to firm strategy, culture, and profitability
About You
The successful candidate will have the following:
Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation (required)
15+ years of progressive public accounting experience, with significant leadership within the Private Enterprise / owner-managed business sector
Proven track record owning key client relationships and acting as a trusted advisor to owner-managers and high-net-worth individuals
Demonstrated experience leading a practice group, including workflow, capacity, WIP, and realization management
Strong technical expertise reviewing and approving compilation engagements, financial statements, and corporate/personal tax filings
Demonstrated success in business development, referral network building, and expanding client relationships
Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop managers and staff, with experience in hiring and performance management
Proficiency with tax preparation and practice management software (e.g., TaxCycle, CaseWare, Sage, QuickBooks) and comparable Canadian and US tax software
U.S. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is a strong asset
Hands-on experience with U.S. personal income tax compliance (Form 1040, 1040NR, FBAR/FinCEN 114, Form 8938, Form 3520, etc.) is a strong asset
Familiarity with Canada–U.S. tax treaty positions, departure tax, and cross-border estate planning considerations is a strong asset
About the Job
This is a permanent, full-time Partner-track position based in Markham, Ontario. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada and be able to work from the office 3-5 days per week (most days during busy season).
Compensation range to be confirmed - commensurate with book of business, partnership terms, and experience.
