The Director, Learning and Teaching Technology (L&TT) is a member of the leadership team for the Centre for Educational Excellence and works in collaboration with other unit leads in the Centre (Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Analysis and Planning) and across the larger AVP-Learning and Teaching Portfolio to ensure alignment of goals and provide strategic and administrative leadership for the integration of systems and technology to support excellence in teaching. The Director L&TT provides leadership in the analysis, design, selection, operationalization and support of campus-wide learning and teaching technology applications and/or services; is responsible for stakeholder (Faculties, Departments, instructors) relationships across the university to understand and anticipate the needs of a major functional area with multiple lines of service; and ensures coordination and collaboration with SFU Enterprise IT in the development and provision of systems, and technology in support of learning and teaching. The Director, L&TT, reporting to the Senior Director, Centre for Educational Excellence, is responsible for contributing to and implementing the strategic development of pedagogical systems and technology and educational media to ensure the Centre for Educational Excellence is responsive and adaptive to the needs of the SFU community. The Director ensures coordination of programming and workshops with the Manager, Learning & Teaching Programs in the C&I division. The incumbent will oversee budget and personnel decisions, development and implementation of relevant policies and procedures, priority and planning activities, and provide effective leadership to reporting managers. This position requires a high degree of inter-organizational and intra-organizational coordination and the ability to work effectively across campus to gain consensus of stakeholders, as well as the ability to effectively manage and motivate teams, identify opportunities and resolve challenges raised by reporting Managers.
Master's degree in a related discipline (e.g., education, business, educational technology) with 8 years of experience and a minimum of 2 years of leadership experience in post-secondary educational technology, online and blended educational design, and development and project management, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
In-depth knowledge and expertise in technology-assisted instruction, interactive design technologies, web-based resources, multimedia technologies, and learning management systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in technology-supported educational practices in both face-to-face and online teaching.
Solid knowledge of the University environment, pedagogy and technology.
Ability to build relationships, consult with faculty, students and staff.
Effective leadership, consultation, facilitation, consensus building, conflict resolution, and negotiation and team-building skills. Ability to effectively facilitate to achieve appropriate outcome.
Creativity and commitment to innovation.
In-depth knowledge and expertise in interactive instructional design and technologies, interface design, web-based resources, multimedia technologies, and learning management systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of best pedagogical practices in online course development methods and research and their application to teaching and learning.
