Position Summary
As an Intern in BMO Finance Group, you will gain valuable hands-on experience working alongside leading professionals while building your professional skills in digital finance and accounting specialties including reporting, process optimization, internal controls and other areas using the Workiva solution.
You will be involved in developing business requirements, policies and procedures, technical and data transformation requirements, and designing/ implementing a variety of solutions that help BMO address challenging business issues.
Work you’ll do
You will optimize processes, develop requirements, create roadmaps, and manipulate, and manage data connections, tool workflows, templates and permissions to deliver meaningful transformation leveraging Workiva solution. Sample responsibilities include:
Working with BMO Finance to understand business challenges and identify solutions to drive desired outcomes
Performing current state assessment of client accounting, reporting, reconciliation, data, and algorithm capabilities
Leveraging tools to enable actionable decision making
Developing system requirements, designing and prototyping, testing, training, defining support procedures and implementing with specific focus on Workiva
Mapping data flows and to identify optimal design and governance options as well as potential risks
Validate and test workflows and external disclosures on a testing and real time basis
Developing business solutions leveraging emerging automation tools.
Qualifications
Undergraduate or master’s degree in the following majors with relevant business, technology, data and/or analytical focused coursework:
Business: Accounting, Economics, Finance, Business Analytics
Technology: Management Information Systems, Accounting Information Systems, Computer Science
Math/Engineering: Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Industrial Engineering
Strong communication, team building, teaming and presentation experience
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects/assignments/responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills
Experience in building finance and accounting models and using purpose-built or custom-built solutions
Experience in leading and developing teams
Experience with packaged technologies – Workiva
Project experience in areas such as process mapping, root cause/gap analysis/best fit, requirements gathering / definition development, financial modeling and value mapping
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
High energy, result driven person
Ability to energize teams through inclusiveness and connection with people

Consolidates, analyzes, and reports on the financial performance of the business / group to support the month-, quarter-, and year-end closing process, including financial reporting and financial governance. Supports an efficient and effective accounting function that uses common information sources and practices, reduces ongoing costs, and increases service level performance.
Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
Analyzes financial results to support financial period closing and reporting processes and provide insights and recommendations.
Gathers and formats data into regular and ad-hoc reports and dashboards for assigned legal entity, business, or group financial information packages.
Supports the preparation of journal entries, monthly / quarterly reporting packages and financial statements, including applicable tax payments and reconciliations, in accordance with accounting rules and standards.
Provides information and supports the process for internal (e.g. corporate and SOX) and external audits.
Reviews supporting documentation, escalating areas of concern and making any necessary amendments.
Coordinates and executes specific activities for the implementation of strategic initiatives; includes tracking metrics and milestones.
Executes routine tasks (e.g. service requests, transactions, queries, etc.) within relevant service level agreements.
Organizes work information to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to deliver on business objectives.
Develops knowledge related to business / group accounting requirements and standards.
Completes complex & diverse tasks within given rules/limits and may include handling escalations from other employees.
Analyzes issues and determines next steps.
Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications:
As a full-time employee, we would require 2-3 years of experience, however as part of the BMO campus program, we are looking for motivated individuals with a strong desire to learn.
