Position Description
The Human Resource Director will plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the policies, activities, and staff of the Human Resource department in the region, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the organization’s mission and talent strategy.
Responsibilities
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department. Supervises US-based HR Manager.
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations and regular feedback.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
- Collaborates with senior leadership to understand the organization’s goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
- Plans, leads, develops, coordinates, and implements policies, processes, training, initiatives, and local surveys to support the organization’s human resource compliance and strategy needs.
- Administers or oversees the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; and occupational health and safety.
- Identifies staffing and recruiting needs; develops and executes best practices for hiring and talent management for the region.
- Conducts research and analysis of organizational trends including review of reports and metrics from the organization’s human resource information system (HRIS) or talent management system.
- Monitors and ensures the organization’s compliance with employment laws and regulations, and best practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to recommend changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.
- Working with the HR Director in Europe to support professional development, training, and certification activities for regional staff.
- Facilities and office management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams. Experience with Sprout HRIS and Applicant Tracking modules.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
- A minimum of 7 - 10 years of progressive human resources experience including holding leadership roles.
- Professional HR certification preferred.
- Experience working with a multinational company.
- Proven experience with employee relations and investigations.
- Facilities and office management experience including establishing an office.
- Canadian and US HR experience required.
This position reports to the VP of Human Resources based in San Francisco.
Position location: This position is based in Toronto, Canada and will initially be fully remote. Future regular office attendance of 1-3 days will be required.
Bonus eligible: 10% bonus eligibility

Pay: $150,000.00-$165,000.00 per year
