Transportation Coach - Gatehouse

Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Transportation Manager, the Transportation Coach will provide hands-on leadership support for the gatehouse transportation coordinator(s). This position will work in the DC gatehouse and expected to perform regular daily tasks to keep the business flowing in a safe, efficient and timely manner. The Transportation Coach will train, mentor, and support Transportation Coordinators. They also work with stores, vendors and carriers to resolve issues on a regular basis with a key focus on customer service.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all Team members/Transportation coordinators comprehend, adhere and execute safety policies and practices.
  • Operating Outbound and Inbound windows to land / release trucks with consistent accuracy
  • Works closely with security, to ensure proper safety, security and accuracy of trucks/drivers/cargo/paperwork are followed
  • Mentor and build relationships with Team members/Transportation Coordinators; complete annual review
  • Manage and lead a team mixed with Team members and Transportation Coordinators
  • Remain Customer focused
  • Using the TMS system(s), currently JDA and other supporting programs, PowerBi, database(s), reports, etc.
  • Monitor Live-unload schedule and contact carrier(s) if missing/late/errors/etc.
  • Monitor trailer pool(s) and discuss daily strategy with carriers, planning and operations
  • Audit predetermined number of Bill Of Lading (BOL) packets weekly
  • Prepare and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly inbound reports / metrics.
  • Backup Transportation Coordinators as required.
  • Conduct yard management audits and quality checks
  • Assist in maintaining trailer pools appropriate to inbound/outbound needs.
  • Any other duties deemed to be necessary by the Transportation Manager.
Qualification Standards:
  • Post-Secondary education in Transportation or Supply Chain preferred, or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience in transportation and/or supply chain at Supervisor level
  • CITT (CCLP) certification, or working towards completion- Asset
  • Proven record for complying with safety requirements and ability to build a culture of safety among subordinates and peers.
  • Successfully manages multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced/stressful environment
  • Familiar with Ministry of Transportation (MTO) regulations
  • Demonstrated flexibility; adapts readily to change; equates change with opportunity
  • Uses analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex problems; uses creative problem-solving; shows initiative
  • Demonstrated team-building skills – strong ability to build rapport and trust with others
  • Experience and willingness to mentor and coach others – succession planning
  • Resolves conflicts quickly and fairly
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experienced with Spreadsheets, Analysis, and using Database programs efficiently
  • Understands various costing / pricing models
  • Must be flexible to work extended hours and/or holidays as required
