Custom Cabinet Installer (Subcontractor)
Position Summary
North 52 Cabinets Ltd. is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Custom Cabinet Installer to join our team as an independent subcontractor. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing high-end custom cabinetry in residential homes while maintaining exceptional craftsmanship and customer service. This role requires someone who takes pride in their work, communicates professionally with clients, and ensures every installation meets our high standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Install custom cabinetry, millwork, and related products safely and efficiently.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, installation drawings, and project specifications.
- Install kitchen, bathroom, laundry, mudroom, entertainment, office, and other custom cabinetry.
- Install crown moulding, light valances, fillers, panels, toe kicks, and decorative trim.
- Install floating shelves and other custom millwork features.
- Install and fit built-in appliances, including coordinating appliance panels and ensuring proper clearances and operation.
- Complete trim work, scribing, and final adjustments to achieve a seamless, high-end finish.
- Install hardware, accessories, and specialty storage solutions.
- Ensure cabinets are installed accurately, level, plumb, and square.
- Coordinate with project managers, designers, homeowners, and other trades on-site.
- Identify and resolve installation challenges while maintaining quality standards.
- Protect finished products and clients' homes during installation.
- Complete touch-ups, adjustments, and minor service work as required.
- Inspect completed installations to ensure they meet company quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Operate company vehicles, tools, and equipment responsibly.
- Communicate project progress, deficiencies, and site concerns to management promptly.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of cabinet installation experience (custom cabinetry preferred).
- Must operate as an independent subcontractor.
- Must have your own complete set of tools required to perform cabinet installations.
- Must possess valid Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) coverage.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Strong understanding of residential construction and renovation practices.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and installation plans.
- Experience installing crown moulding, decorative trim, floating shelves, and built-in appliances.
- Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and installation equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail and finishing skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively with project managers and other trades.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Professional appearance and excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials safely.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience installing high-end residential custom cabinetry.
- Finish carpentry experience.
- Knowledge of cabinet hardware installation, adjustments, and alignment.
- Experience working with custom woodworking and architectural millwork.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs (23 kg); occasional team lifts for heavier items.
- Stand, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work overhead for extended periods.
- Ability to work in varying indoor construction environments.
