HAL Disability is seeking experienced, compassionate and dependable Rehabilitation Support Workers to provide one-on-one support to individuals who have sustained injuries as a result of motor vehicle accidents.
Clients may be living with physical, cognitive, emotional or behavioural challenges related to motor vehicle accident injuries, including acquired brain injuries, neurological impairments, chronic pain, mobility limitations and other accident-related disabilities.
Applicants must have previous experience working with motor vehicle accident clients and must understand the unique rehabilitation, documentation and communication requirements involved in MVA files.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualized rehabilitation support to MVA clients in their homes and community settings.
- Assist clients in following rehabilitation goals and treatment recommendations established by their healthcare team.
- Support clients with activities of daily living, community integration and independent living skills.
- Assist with cognitive, behavioural, emotional and physical rehabilitation strategies.
- Support clients experiencing acquired brain injuries, neurological impairments, chronic pain, mobility limitations or accident-related psychological challenges.
- Accompany clients to medical appointments, rehabilitation sessions, community programs, shopping and other approved activities.
- Encourage clients to develop routines, coping strategies, functional skills and greater independence.
- Observe and document the client’s progress, challenges, behaviours and response to rehabilitation activities.
- Complete accurate and timely progress notes, service records and incident reports.
- Communicate professionally with occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, social workers, case managers, lawyers, insurers, family members and other members of the rehabilitation team.
- Immediately report changes in the client’s condition, safety concerns or significant incidents.
- Maintain client confidentiality, professional boundaries and respectful communication.
- Follow all treatment plans, organizational policies, health and safety procedures and infection-control requirements.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Previous experience working directly with motor vehicle accident clients is required.
- Experience supporting clients with acquired brain injuries, neurological impairments, physical disabilities, cognitive challenges, behavioural concerns, chronic pain or mental-health difficulties.
- Diploma or degree in Social Service Work, Behavioural Science, Psychology, Kinesiology, Rehabilitation Therapy,
- Strong knowledge of rehabilitation support, client-centred care and professional documentation.
- Strong communication, observation and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team.
- Compassionate, patient, dependable and professional.
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification is preferred.
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle are strongly preferred.
- Ability to travel within the Greater Toronto Area or Ottawa.
- Availability during weekdays, evenings or weekends depending on client needs.
