SUMMARY

The Health, Safety & Environment Coordinator coordinates environmental and health processes and activities to assist the account team in maintaining compliance, mitigating and managing environmental and health related risks, and improving related performance.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Coordination

Acts as the first point-of-contact for environmental and health inquiries and incidents
Provides guidance to account team members on environmental and health matters/program requirements, and escalates inquiries, where appropriate
Coordinates the implementation of environmental and health programs along with related processes, procedures and resources. Including but not limited to the following subject matter: Asbestos Management, BOMA Certification, Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Site Assessment, Emergency Response, Fuel Storage Tank Systems, Halocarbons, Hazardous Substances, Hazardous Waste, Indoor Air Quality, Legionella, Mould/Water Damage, Non-Hazardous Waste, Pest Control, Polychlorinated Biphenyls, Potable Water, Species at Risk, and Wastewater
Coordinates environmental and health activities including but not limited to, incident investigation and resolution, equipment and systems registration, emergency response procedures, training, annual management system re-registration, compliance audit
Researches environmental and health matters, provides findings and recommendations
Maintains and assists with the creation of environmental and health documentation including but not limited to plans, processes, procedures
Creates and maintains documentation including but not limited to instruction sheets, checklists, forms, training materials
Create and maintains environmental emergency management plans and procedures
Perform risk assessments and develop standard operating procedures
Participates in field inspections; environment/health audits and other types of reviews for the purpose of monitoring compliance to health and environment requirements and identifying risks. Provides findings identifying risks and suggestions for improvement

Incident Investigation, Resolution & Reduction

Assists in the investigation and resolution of incidents including root-cause analysis and providing probable causes of incidents and recommendations for resolution
Coordinates the implementation of corrective and preventative measures
Assists in the identification and analysis of trends. Communicates observations and provides suggestions for incident reduction measures

Audit Compliance, Data Maintenance & Reporting

Maintains all environmental and health related data including but not limited to incident data, compliance data within applicable databases and all other types of information storage systems
Assists in the audit of compliance records and all other environmental, and health data
Prepares and distributes various environmental and health related reports
Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

College degree completed
Certification in one or more of the following –Certificate in Environmental Management through a Community College; or University degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences
1 to 3 years of environmental work experience
Understanding of environmental and regulatory requirements
Understanding of emergency management requirements
Strong organizational and coordination skills along with ability to coordinate multiple requirements (i.e. processes, activities, projects, emergency response procedures, etc) simultaneously
Strong communication skills along with some ability to influence stakeholders
Strong administrative skills along with ability to maintain and report accurate data
Analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to exercise good judgment
