Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate, enthusiastic, and reliable Drum Instructor to join our team. The successful candidate will teach private and small-group drum lessons to children, teens, and adults, helping students build strong technical skills, musicianship, confidence, and a lifelong love of music.
Responsibilities
- Teach engaging and individualized drum lessons to students of all ages and skill levels.
- Instruct students in rhythm, counting, timing, reading percussion notation, rudiments, technique, coordination, and musicianship.
- Teach various musical styles, including rock, pop, jazz, blues, and contemporary music.
- Develop lesson plans tailored to each student's goals, interests, and learning style.
- Prepare students for recitals, performances, festivals, competitions, and examinations when applicable.
- Encourage creativity, improvisation, and ensemble skills.
- Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to families and students.
- Maintain a positive, encouraging, and professional learning environment.
- Communicate effectively with parents, students, and academy administration.
- Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled lessons.
- Participate in academy events, recitals, camps, and special programs when required.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1–2 years of drum teaching experience.
- Degree or diploma in Music Performance, Music Education, Percussion Studies, or a related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge of drum technique, rhythm, percussion notation, and musicianship.
- Ability to teach students from beginner to advanced levels.
- Experience teaching multiple musical styles and adapting lessons to individual student interests.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, energetic, organized, and dependable.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students of all ages and abilities.
- Vulnerable Sector Check (or willingness to obtain one).
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience preparing students for performances, festivals, and examinations.
- Experience teaching group classes, ensembles, bands, or camps.
- Ability to teach an additional instrument or subject is an asset.
- Experience with online instruction and educational technology.
- Experience working with students with diverse learning needs.
