The St. John’s Transportation Commission is seeking interested candidates for our Transit Operator Training Program. This Program, scheduled for November, is three (3) weeks in length and includes training in bus driving, customer service, and operational procedures. Upon successful completion of the Training Program, individuals will be eligible for future employment as a Transit Operator. It is important for candidates to note that participants do not receive remuneration while participating in the training program.
Our Transit Operators operate transit buses on established routes, with fixed time schedules in high density traffic and in all weather conditions. The position requires attentiveness, good judgment, safe driving habits, time management and an ability to deal with a diverse customer base.
Upon being hired, new Transit Operators are considered Temporary employees. This means that they do not have regularly scheduled shifts and are called for work on an “as needed basis”. They must provide maximum flexibility as they will be required to work a variety of split shifts, day or night shifts and weekend shifts. Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to review the Realistic Job Preview for the Transit Operator on our website: www.metrobus.com/jobs.
QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidates must have the ability to work as a member of a pro-active customer service team; possess an ability to effectively understand, speak and write in English as well as strong problem solving skills; graduation from high school with post secondary course work preferred; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and have at least five (5) years of driving experience. Class 02 and 09 endorsements are deemed an asset. Applicants not possessing these endorsements must meet the eligibility requirements. As a condition of employment, candidates selected for the training program must successfully complete pre-employment drug testing.
Interested applicants should submit a resume stating education and experience. Applications will be accepted up to and including Monday, October 4, 2021.
Only those selected for an interview will be contacted. We thank all applicants for their interest in employment with Metrobus.
