McCuaig & Associates Engineering Ltd. is looking for a Structural Engineer with to join our team at our Head Office in Burnaby, BC. The ideal candidate will have at least 7 years experience as an structural engineer.
Key Responsibilities:

Start-up and head MAE’s new Structural Department
-
Prepare detailed structural designs from concept, tender, permit, and construction for commercial, recreational, municipal, industrial, and residential buildings, using a variety of structural materials (concrete, timber, mass timber, steel, etc)

Review structural designs prepared by others as needed
-
Periodically travel to project sites on an as-required basis for ½ day or 1-day site visits, typically for data collection, review of construction or attendance at coordination or design review meetings, some out of town travel may be required.

Use building structural knowledge and construction techniques to come up with solutions to potential design or on-site issues

Review existing building structural elements and prepare structural assessment reports

Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers, and other specialty consultants
-
Complete structural site reviews/field investigation

Coordinate and run meetings internally and externally
-
Assist with interpreting and implementing applicable codes and regulations
-
Develop/ review and approve budgets and cash flows
-
Develop/review shop drawings
-
Carry out contract administration duties
-
Assist in the preparation of technical proposal material for structural projects
-
Act as a mentor, teacher and coach to less experienced team members with the goal of growing and guiding them through their careers

Evaluate the quality of technical design and supports activities which assure a high level of technical quality throughout the firm
Education and Experience
-
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree specializing in structural design/ engineering from a recognized university
-
Must be registered as a Struct.Eng. with EGBC; Registration in other western provinces and territories an asset

Minimum 10 years of structural engineering experience in the building construction industry
Skills and Qualifications:

Strong leadership, technical writing skills, and verbal communication skills including presentation skills

Excellent attention to detail and strong work ethic

Ability to engage in creative and critical solutions independently and in a team environment

Check work of others for accuracy and completeness

Manage team to meet project budget and schedule

Ability to direct and mentor team members

Technically proficient in Bluebeam Revu, Autodesk CADD/Revit, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Project

Experience with AutoCAD and Revit is preferred

Experience with structural analysis software such as SAP2000, Etabs, SAFE
-
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and adapt to shifting priorities
-
Proven track record of project management skills and experience

Strong knowledge of building codes
-
Comprehensive knowledge of building structural systems, constructability, materials and industry associated standards

Evaluation of design quality and supporting activities to assure a high level of technical quality throughout the firm
-
Receive and offer constructive criticism and communicate professionally
-
Scale process, design and effort as required by various roles on projects
-
Hold a valid driver’s license and be willing to undergo security screening
