AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Reporting to the Works Foreperson, works as part of a crew to assist in applying asphalt/concrete on roads and property, control traffic, maintain watercourses, and perform winter maintenance projects.

Performs winter maintenance: shovels or operates walkways behind plows and snowblowers, and sands paths, sidewalks, etc.;

Maintains watercourses; operates mowers, trimmers, saw, etc. to cut and remove plants; digs debris, digs out or fills-in banks, lifts rocks to install gabion baskets;

Performs flagging to ensure site safety; places cones/signs; directs traffic flow through the area;

Performs turf maintenance: digs and removes old sod, applies topsoil, new sod, rakes and picks up leaves;

Assists in repairing catch basins/manholes: sets up tools, breaks up/removes asphalt, concrete, brick, etc. Cleans precast, replaces frame and lid, back fills with gravel to prepare for asphalt using wacker packer and jackhammer;

Assists in asphalt projects: assists in setting up tools/equipment and site, lays gravel, applies emulsion, and spreads asphalt with shovel or rake;

Assists in concrete projects: assists in setting up tools/equipment, breaking up and removing curbs/sidewalks using jackhammer, filling with gravel, forming and measuring area, mixing, shovelling and levelling cement, cleaning site;

Repairs roads: sets-up tools/equipment, breaks up and removes old road using pick, sledgehammer, shovel and/or jackhammer. Loads debris on truck, backfills, levels and tampers area, and applies asphalt. Cleans and fills potholes with asphalt or cold-patch;

Acts as wing person on snow plows: assists in installing wing; lubes and checks equipment, operates levers, watches for obstacles and communicates with drivers;

Maintains own tools: cleans and performs minor repairs;

Responds to on-site requests from public regarding work performed;

Installs and removes snow fence: checks prior to installation/and throughout winter; measures area, installs posts and fencing.

Other similar and related duties as assigned.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent

Over one (1) year, up to and including two (2) years experience in asphalt and/or concrete work or basic construction

Must possess a valid non-probationary Ontario Class G driver’s licence

Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service

Ability to work independently or as part of a team

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
