About Synode
Synode builds a 3D asset management platform that transforms industrial CAD and engineering files into browser-native and XR-ready applications. Our tools (Builder, Visualizer, Configurator, Localizer) serve manufacturing, automotive, and electronics clients, turning static engineering data into interactive apps used across the shop floor and in the field.
We're scaling from a service-driven model into a self-serve platform with a growing developer and partner ecosystem, built on connectivity to the CAD systems our customers already use.
The Role
You'll build the plugins, SDK, and APIs that connect Synode's 3D core to the CAD world: SolidWorks and Inventor plugins, an extensibility layer for third-party developers, and the public APIs partners build against. You'll work in C++ and C#, translating CAD data and workflows into stable, versioned integration points, with a strong enough 3D/graphics foundation to design those hooks in a way that holds up against Synode's rendering core.
What You'll Do
- Build and maintain CAD plugin integrations (SolidWorks, Inventor) connecting external CAD systems to Synode's platform
- Design and implement the SDK/extensibility layer that lets third parties build on top of Synode's core: scripting hooks, versioning without breaking existing integrations, sandboxing and permissioning
- Design public-facing APIs for partner and plugin connectivity: authentication, versioning, documentation
- Own the integration boundary between CAD/engineering file formats (STEP, IGES, native CAD formats) and Synode's 3D asset pipeline (geometry, textures, versioning)
- Collaborate closely with Synode's 3D/rendering programmers on where the core engine needs to expose hooks for CAD plugins and partner apps
- Troubleshoot and debug across CAD systems, SDKs, and integration points, balancing correctness against real-world CAD data
- Stay current on CAD APIs, plugin ecosystems, and SDK/extensibility best practices
What We're Looking For
- Strong C++ and C# skills, ideally with experience writing CAD plugins or add-ins (SolidWorks API, Inventor API, or similar)
- Experience designing and shipping an SDK or scripting API for third-party extensions: sandboxing, permissioning, versioning without breaking existing integrations
- Strong API design instincts: what makes a public API and its documentation genuinely usable by outside developers (REST and/or GraphQL, auth, rate limiting, versioning)
- A 3D/graphics foundation — WebGL/Three.js, Unity, or equivalent, with solid 3D math/linear algebra — to design integration points that hold up against the rendering core
- Understanding of CAD file formats and interchange standards (STEP, IGES) and/or 3D asset pipelines (geometry, textures, versioning)
- Comfort working cross-functionally with 3D/graphics engineers on where the core engine needs to expose extensibility
- Creative problem-solving, strong attention to detail, and solid communication skills
Nice to have
- Experience with API documentation tooling (OpenAPI/Swagger or equivalent)
- Hands-on graphics programming experience beyond a working knowledge of WebGL/Three.js or Unity
- Prior work with JS/TS fullstack (Node.js, React or similar) for the API/backend side of the SDK
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
Why Synode
You'll define how Synode's ecosystem connects to the CAD world: the plugins, SDK, and APIs that let CAD systems, partners, and third-party developers build on top of Synode's 3D core. This role sits at the center of Synode's strategy to become the most-used platform in industrial 3D.
