Position Type: Permanent, Full-time (37.5 hours/week)
Wage Rate: Grid 10, regular wage: $37.57/hour. ($31.57 plus $6+ ECE Wage Enhancement)
This position is compensated in accordance with the Fernwood NH/BCGEU Collective Agreement wage grid. Wage rates are aligned with the CSS-GS JJEP. Probationary wage is 85% of the regular wage.
The ECE Wage Enhancement (ECEWE) is a separate wage enhancement funded directly by the Province of British Columbia and is not included as part of the base wage. If the ECEWE program is discontinued or Fernwood Neighbourhood House is no longer eligible to participate, the employee’s wage will be based on the applicable base wage rate only.
The timing of these wage changes will be implemented in accordance with the Collective Agreement implementation schedule.

George Jay Elementary School Learning Studios (1180 Queens Avenue)
Vic High Learning Studios (1285 Gladstone) as required.
Hours: Monday to Friday. Rotating shifts may be scheduled between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Fernwood Neighbourhood House is seeking one qualified Early Childhood Educator (ECE) to join our Childcare team.
The successful candidate will support the growth, learning, and well-being of children by creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment while building positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
This is a hybrid full-time position with combined responsibilities in our 3–5-year-old childcare program and our Out-of-School Care (OSC) program for school-aged children. In the morning, you will serve as an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) in our 3–5 program, providing nurturing, play-based care for children age group 3-5. In the afternoon, you will transition into an Out-of-School Care role for Children in Kindergarten and Grade 1
Key Responsibilities
Child Development & Programming
- Plan, implement, and assess developmentally appropriate, play-based learning experiences.
- Develop emergent curriculum based on children's interests and observations.
- Support children's social-emotional development.
- Implement the BC Early Learning Framework in daily programming.
Child Guidance
- Foster positive behaviour guidance using respectful, developmentally appropriate practices.
- Encourage self-regulation and conflict resolution.
Health, Safety & Supervision
- Ensure children's health, safety, and well-being through active supervision.
- Follow licensing regulations and centre policies.
- Maintain health records and incident documentation.
Environment & Daily Care
- Create welcoming, inclusive learning environments.
- Support children's independence and self-help skills.
- Assist with cleaning and sanitizing learning spaces.
Communication & Professionalism
- Build strong relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Attend staff meetings and complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Valid BC Early Childhood Educator Certificate
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Minimum one year of experience working in licensed childcare
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team
Assets
- Special Needs Educator (SNE) Certificate
- Additional languages
- Trauma-informed practice
- Knowledge of BC Child Care Licensing Regulations

- Ability to lift and move program equipment and furniture.

This position is open to all applicants. This position requires union membership and is covered by the BCGEU Collective Agreement. The successful applicant will become a member of the BCGEU and union dues will be deducted in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

Wages, benefits, and other terms and conditions of employment are governed by the Collective Agreement. Please note that certain wage increases may be subject to the availability of funding. Where applicable and funding is received, eligible employees may receive retroactive wage adjustments in accordance with the Collective Agreement and funding requirements.
Union dues will be deducted from employees' pay in accordance with the Collective Agreement and BCGEU policies..
