An opportunity currently exists at the Shelter Health Network (SHN Clinic) in the position of:
Reporting to the Director of the Barrett Centre, with day-to-day direction from the Clinic Administrator, the Administrative Assistant enhances the dignity and quality of life of staff and clients of Shelter Health Network Clinics. The Administrative Assistant receives clients in a welcoming and dignified manner, facilitating access to primary health care for persons who require it, and providing clerical assistance to health care professionals.
The Shelter Health Network is a collaboration of health care professionals and social service organizations that serves high-risk individuals who do not have stable housing living with complex health challenges. Individuals using the Shelter Health Network face numerous barriers in accessing health care: from not having health cards nor the ID necessary to obtain one, to not having a phone or address to receive appointment information, to feeling stigmatized when they do access care.
Working out of one main location, the Administrative Assistant must be able to support a large number of physicians working in a number of locations including shelters and transitional housing programs, drop-in centres, addiction facilities and mental health facilities.
· Completion of a Medical Secretary program at the community college level.
· Experience in medical terminology.
· Proven ability and experience in interacting with health care professionals and understanding of the Hamilton health care system.
· Experience in registration, documentation, and scheduling in a medical environment.
