The Compliance Department is responsible for promoting an ethical culture and providing independent and unbiased oversight of the management of AIMCo’s compliance with laws, regulations, guidelines and policies relevant to its activities. These activities play a critical role in maintaining our reputation and ensuring AIMCo does business the right way.
As the Compliance Officer you will understand the key risks facing AIMCo and propose recommendations to mitigate these risks in coordination with your team and manager. Additionally, you will feel confident creating draft policies/procedures for approval that ensure further risks are minimized. This may mean updating various systems, clarifying policies to other AIMCo staff, and/or recommending disciplinary action for the employee responsible.
Performing and completing investment monitoring activities to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and internal policies and guidelines
Identifying potential exceptions, analyzing the issue, determining their severity, and recommending solutions to resolve them with appropriate parties
Actively monitoring trading throughout the day to ensure suitability and reasonability of trades
Documenting and revising department procedures to align with industry best practices
Identifying and proposing efficiencies in Investment Compliance processes includes trading systems and reporting
Identifying and resolving issues on Compliance reporting from trading platforms
Performing User Acceptance Testing on new products introduced to AIMCo
Participate in compliance projects relating to new initiatives and enhancements
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
As a key member of the Compliance team, you will play a key role in providing professional support and assistance as it relates to Investment Compliance. You will possess the ability to work in a highly integrated and collaborative manner with peers, management and investment teams, and will also thrive in a fast-paced atmosphere. Help shape the future compliance capabilities at AIMCo.
Our ideal candidate will possess:
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, actuarial sciences or another related field
The successful completion of a professional designation such as a CPA or CFA would be an asset
2+ years of experience in investment reporting, trade processing, settlement, reconciliations, risk measurement, investment compliance or operational due diligence reviews with experience within a financial institutions, audit or investment management
Proven track record of establishing and improving controls and processes
Working knowledge of industry standards and best practices relating to financial instruments, investment strategies, risk management, operational due diligence and regulatory compliance
Superior knowledge of PowerBI, Spotfire, SQL, VBA, Visio, Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Experience with trading platforms such as CRTS and Calypso would be an asset
Strong verbal and written communication skills - ability to articulate findings/views in a clear and concise manner to colleagues, management and portfolio management groups
Detail oriented, able to shift priorities quickly and thrive under tight deadlines
Team player who enjoys high performance culture; comfortable and flexible with constantly evolving priorities and is open to new challenges
Demonstrates a strong commitment to AIMCo’s core values of excellence, transparency, humility, integrity and collaboration, and inspires the same in others
