About the Position
We are currently seeking a Co-op Student to join the Bioconjugation team in the Antibody Drug Conjugate (ADC) Therapeutic Development department. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting experimental tasks related to protein conjugation and characterization. The Co-op Student, Bioconjugation will frequently be challenged to critically analyze results, and contribute to the Zymeworks team effort to create clinically and commercially relevant therapeutics. This position reports to a Senior Research Associate in Bioconjugation and will be based in Vancouver, BC. The candidate must be available to work on site without relocation assistance.
This role will be located in Vancouver, BC and is full-time onsite. The hourly wage for this co-op position is $21.00 CAD.
The student is expected to participate in the development of antibody drug conjugates:
- Perform bioconjugation experiments to attach small molecules to antibodies and other proteins
- Characterize antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates using HPLC-HIC, HPLC-SEC, SDS-PAGE, CE-SDS, flow cytometry and other methods as required
- Assist with functional characterization of bioconjugates using, for example, cell growth inhibition assays
- Perform experiments, interprets and analyzes data, and prepares presentations for group meetings
- Conduct all activities in accordance with scientific standards, OS&H regulations and established Zymeworks policies and practices
- Adhere to Zymeworks standard procedures for generating, documenting and archiving data, maintaining an accurate, up-to-date lab notebook or electronic notebook
- Contribute to a safe and highly efficient laboratory environment through ordering of consumables, preparation of solutions, stocking of consumables, and maintaining a clean working environment
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Immunology or a related discipline and successful completion of at least one relevant co-op term is highly preferred. Availability for an 8 month co-op term is also required.
- Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of cross-functional team.

- Good organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a high paced, fast changing environment. Results-oriented
- Experience working with antibodies or bioconjugation would be an asset
- Experience involving mammalian tissue culture, FACS, SDS-PAGE, protein purification and quantification, ELISA, or HPLC would be an asset
- Excellent oral and written communication capabilities
- Good computer skills particularly with Excel and PowerPoint
- Basic working knowledge of antibody structure and function
