Position Requirements:
Completed college diploma or university degree in a computer related field, or the equivalent relevant training and experience.
Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience, preferably in the field of computer forensics, network design and maintenance, or product testing and documentation.
Comptia A+ and N+ Certifications, as well as EnCase certification, and Cell Phone Forensic Investigator Certification is required.
Specialized Certifications in iPhone, Blackberry and Android; GPS Certification; Windows based Operating Systems; Mac Operating Systems; and Linux Operation Systems are preferred.
MCSA or MCSE Certifications as well as FTK certification and Canadian Police College courses such as CompFor, Network Investigations, and Social Media Internet Investigations are preferred.
Knowledge of relevant federal and provincial statutes including current case law pertaining to electronic search and seizure.
Knowledge of security, continuity and handling of evidence as imposed by YRP procedures and practices; by the Courts; and by the Rules of Evidence.
Knowledge of computer networking, security protocols and principles, including computer and microcomputer system hardware and software, routing, IP addressing digital/wireless and mobile technologies.
Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
Solid decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.
Valid Class “G” Driver’s License.

Position Scope:
The duties for this position may involve, but are not limited to:

Conduct forensic examinations of computers and computer-related devices as part of ongoing investigations in order to examine and analyze electronic data for the purpose of developing, enhancing and clarifying evidence to produce clear and concise reports of findings.
Provide educational resources related to investigations where computer technology is involved.
Assist in the execution of computer/cell phone related search warrants.
Attend crime scenes for the purpose of discovering, documenting and collecting computer and or digital evidence.
Prepare documentation of seized electronic evidence.
Develop and deliver presentations and training initiatives to other York Regional Police members along with members of the public.
Design, build, update and maintain the internal Technical Data Recovery database.
Maintain data integrity as well as the backup and restoration of all investigative data.
Test forensic software and hardware tools to ensure functionality and accuracy.
Install, configure and diagnose basic and advanced computer and associated peripheral issues for both the Technical Data Recovery Unit and ICE Unit.
Present expert testimony in court for criminal prosecutions.
Provide the ICE Unit with second level support for computer hardware, software and network issues that are not supported by YRP IT staff.
