Why is this role important?
Interprets Federal (GST/HST) and provincial (QST and PST) commodity tax legislation to assist and provide guidance and direction to all Loblaw retail and financial services business units
Learn Tobacco Taxes and become the expert to advise business units on tobacco tax
Prepares company position papers/memos/policies on commodity tax legislation and makes recommendations for course of action to senior management of all business units and senior management (VP and above)
Prepare training materials and delivers training sessions to Colleagues on any and all commodity tax legislation (GST/HST, QST PST, Tobacco tax) and changes there to
Reviews the self-assessment of provincial and federal taxes by various Loblaw business units to ensure that they are adhering to regulatory requirements, including identifying and addressing areas of non-compliance, recovery, and overpayments
Liaises with business analysts and IT system programmers in the design and implementation of information systems that will support Loblaw commodity tax compliance effort (i.e. SAP implementation)
Lead, manage government audits as appropriate and necessary
Project management to implement commodity tax legislative changes across the business units
Mentor, develop other members of the commodity tax team within Loblaw
