Job Description

Guaranteed Investment Products (GIP) is on a multi-year path to becoming one of the top investment product manufacturers in Canada through innovative and client-focused product development and management. The Pricing team plays a central role in the execution of this strategy, working closely with our internal partners in Products, Finance, Corporate Actuarial and Risk Management.

As part of its mandate the team is responsible for ensuring that the risks and profitability associated with Segregated Funds and GICs meet corporate and business plan targets. Reporting to the Head of Pricing Guaranteed Investment Products, the Actuarial Associate is primarily accountable for the production, analysis and delivery of certain key financial and risk indicators associated with new sales in Segregated Funds and GICs. The Actuarial Associate is also asked to play a key role on various product development and other ad-hoc projects.

Key Accountabilities:
The successful candidate will have primary responsibilities for the following:

Pricing Initiatives: Handle product pricing initiatives from inception through to launch (both new product initiatives and ongoing pricing reviews), working closely with key partners within and outside the business unit. This includes the preparation of Product Proposal Outlines and Product Pricing Reports, as well as ensuring methodologies, assumptions and models follow Corporate Pricing Standards.
New Business Profitability and Risk Monitoring: Ensure products meet stated profitability goals and remain within the company and business unit risk tolerance. This includes responsibility for the quarterly production and review of key financial metrics (e.g. New Business Value, Lifetime Return on Capital) as well as risk indicators.
New Business Plan: Contribute in the production and review of New Business Plan projections. This involves working closely with other pricing actuaries and key partners outside the team (e.g. Sales, Products, Risk Management, Finance).
Special Case Pricing: Responsible for the production and review of pricing exceptions when necessary. This involves balancing customer expectations with risk and financial targets, keeping in mind evolving market and business conditions.

Job Requirements (Knowledge/Skills/Competencies):
Must have 3 or more years of experience
Must have a bachelor’s degree in either Actuarial Science, Mathematics or Economics.
Must actively pursue Actuarial Exams; ASA designation a plus.
Have strong interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and ability to work in teams.
Must be creative and have an innovative mindset.
Must possess strong problem-solving skills, the ability to quickly identify and implement ways to improve and streamline processes.
Must have strong organizational skills and can work under tight timelines.
Programming skills in Python as asset.
