Position Summary
The Gaming Officer is responsible for administering all gaming-related activities on behalf of the Powell River Minor Hockey Association (PRMHA) in accordance with the regulations and policies established by the British Columbia Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch (GPEB). This role is essential in ensuring the Association remains compliant with all gaming licensing, grant, and reporting requirements.
The Gaming Officer works closely with the President and Treasurer, who provide oversight, guidance, and support to ensure all regulatory obligations are met.
Compensation: $12,000 per year
Key Responsibilities
The Gaming Officer shall:
- Administer all PRMHA gaming licences, grants, and gaming-related activities in compliance with all applicable GPEB regulations and policies.
- Serve as the Association's designated Submitter Officer Responsible for all gaming licence applications, gaming grant applications, financial reports, and other required regulatory submissions.
- Ensure all gaming-related applications, reports, and supporting documentation are completed accurately and submitted by established deadlines.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of all gaming licences, grants, reports, correspondence, and supporting documentation.
- Monitor ongoing compliance with gaming regulations and promptly report any compliance issues, concerns, or irregularities to the President and Treasurer.
- Provide regular updates to the Executive regarding the status of gaming applications, reporting obligations, and compliance matters.
- Collaborate with the Treasurer to ensure gaming revenues and expenditures are accurately tracked and reported.
- Assist the Executive in responding to requests for information from the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch when required.
- Perform all duties in accordance with the PRMHA Constitution, Bylaws, Policies, and Procedures, under the direction and supervision of the President and Treasurer.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain accurate records.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and online submission portals.
- The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information responsibly.
- Experience with grant administration, bookkeeping, accounting, or regulatory compliance is considered an asset but is not required.
Gaming Officer Responsibilities
The Gaming Officer shall also be responsible for administering all PRMHA gaming-related activities in compliance with the British Columbia Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch regulations. This is not a board position.
- The Gaming Officer shall be designated as the “Submitter Officer Responsible” on all gaming licence applications and reports.
- The President and Treasurer shall provide oversight, guidance, and support to the Gaming Officer to ensure all submissions and reports meet regulatory standards and deadlines.
- The Gaming Officer shall maintain accurate records, communicate regularly with the Executive, and promptly report any compliance concerns or irregularities to the President and/or Treasurer.
- The Gaming Officer shall perform all duties under the direction and supervision of the President and Treasurer, and in accordance with PRMHA policies and procedures.
Estimated Time Commitment
This is a volunteer Board position with a workload that varies throughout the year.
- Average commitment: Approximately 2–5 hours per month.
- Peak periods: Approximately 5–10 hours per month during gaming grant application periods, financial reporting deadlines, or when gaming licences require renewal.
- The Gaming Officer is expected to attend regular PRMHA Board meetings and provide updates to the Executive as required.
Reporting Relationship
The Gaming Officer reports directly to the President and works closely with the Treasurer. The position serves as a voting member of the PRMHA Board of Directors unless otherwise provided for in the Association's Bylaws.
