The Role
MCL is hiring an experienced Construction Labourer to complete general construction, renovation, carpentry, installation and finishing work across varied commercial project scopes. The successful candidate can work productively with limited direction, safely operate common construction tools, interpret basic plans and contribute to efficient, high-quality site execution.
Responsibilities
- Complete general construction, selective demolition, site protection, temporary containment and cleanup activities.
- Perform rough and finish carpentry, framing, blocking, backing, installation and repair work within demonstrated skill level.
- Assist with doors, hardware, drywall, ceilings, millwork and other architectural finishes as assigned.
- Measure, lay out and complete work using basic plans, drawings, specifications and written instructions.
- Assist skilled trades and subcontractors with materials, access, layout and work-area preparation.
- Safely operate commonly used construction hand and power tools.
- Complete deficiency and closeout work while protecting existing and completed finishes.
- Identify required materials, tools, equipment and site conditions and communicate them to the supervisor.
- Maintain clean, organized and safe work areas.
- Support less-experienced workers and model safe, productive work practices.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- At least two years of relevant commercial construction, general contracting or multi-trade renovation experience.
- Practical experience completing general construction, demolition, carpentry, installation or finishing work.
- Demonstrated competence with commonly used construction hand and power tools.
- Ability to read basic plans and drawings, take accurate measurements and follow written work instructions.
- Working knowledge of job-site safety practices, site protection and required personal protective equipment.
- Ability to work productively with limited direction while remaining within assigned responsibilities.
- Dependable attendance, effective time management and clear communication.
- Ability to perform the essential duties of active construction work and report reliably to changing sites throughout the National Capital Region.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience on commercial, institutional, industrial, multi-unit residential or occupied-building projects.
- Experience with carpentry, drywall, ceilings, doors, hardware, millwork or architectural finishes.
- Experience completing deficiencies, repairs and project closeout work.
- Current Working at Heights, WHMIS, First Aid or other applicable construction safety training. A valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.
Work Environment
Work is performed at active construction sites, indoors and outdoors, and may involve dust, noise, uneven surfaces, heights, temperature changes, physical labour, lifting and moving heavy materials, and the use of required personal protective equipment. The role requires travel between sites and may require early starts, overtime or occasional weekend work.
