Job Title: Operations Manager
Full-time permanent On-site: 130-13751 Mayfield Place, Richmond, BC, V6V 2G9
Schedule: 7am-4pm or 8am-5pm, 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday
Salary Range: 105-120k
Reporting to the Branch Leader, the Operations Manager is responsible for the complete, safe, efficient, and profitable management of all operational activities at the branch. This role has direct accountability for the performance of the service coordination, warehouse management, and administrative functions of the branch. This role is fully focused on operational execution. The incumbent ensures the disciplined delivery of sold work while optimizing resources, processes, and overall performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Leadership and Execution
- Ensures proper planning and smooth execution of activities (dispatch, prioritization, resource allocation)
- Ensures work is carried out in accordance with timelines and contractual commitments
- Analyzes execution variances (actual versus estimated time, costs, profitability) and implements required corrective actions
- Translates sold contracts and work into detailed execution plans (resources, sequencing, and logistics)
2. Management of Departments Under Responsibility
The incumbent has direct management responsibility for the following units:
Service Coordination Team:
- Supervises and guides the work of the Service Coordination team members (purchasing, dispatch)
- Ensures the quality of interventions and compliance with technical standards
- Implements practices aimed at reducing callbacks, rework, and inefficiencies
- Performs budget oversight for the department
Warehousing and Logistics:
- Leads procurement, receiving, storage, and distribution activities for parts and equipment
- Ensures rigorous inventory management (accuracy, rotation, critical availability)
- Optimizes logistics flows to effectively support field operations
3. Financial Management and Operational Performance
- Accountable for documenting operational KPIs (productivity, efficiency, labour cost, team performance)
- Analyzes operational data (hours worked, contract profitability, actual costs versus estimates)
- Contributes to the budgeting process and forecasting by aligning operational capacity with client commitments
- Monitors performance indicators for service operations and warehousing
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Works closely with the Branch Leader to validate the feasibility of sold work and alignment of resources
- Collaborates with administrative teams (payables, receivables, costing, etc.) to ensure smooth execution
- Proactively communicates risks related to capacity, resources, or execution
- Participates in the continuous improvement of operational processes across the branch
Scope of the Role
This position is a central performance driver for the branch. It ensures rigorous and disciplined operational execution while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
Requirements
- Diploma in Logistics, business administration, or other related field required.
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive operational leadership experience, ideally in HVAC, mechanical services, technical service, construction, or a comparable field service environment
- Minimum 3 years of people leadership experience managing dispatch/service teams, warehouse/logistics staff, and/or multidisciplinary technical teams
- Strong understanding of service operations, field execution, dispatch, workforce planning, inventory/warehouse management, and operational resource allocation
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets, productivity, and operational KPIs
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, labour standards, and operational compliance requirements
- Experience in continuous improvement, process optimization, and implementing corrective actions to improve operational efficiency and service quality
- Excellent planning, organization, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced operational environment
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Ability to travel 10-15 percent of the time
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel between sites/branches as required
