Purpose and Scope
A fin press operator sets up and runs specialized mechanical machinery that stamps, bends, and cuts thin metal sheets into precise cooling fins for heat exchangers and HVAC coils
Working Conditions
The Fin Press Set up employee works in a manufacturing environment and will be required to perform such actions as standing, bending and lifting as well as high noise levels. Personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and CSA approved Steel Toe boots are mandatory. Must be available to work rotating shifts as required.
Duties
- Read work orders and drawings to understand the requirements of the job work order.
- Identify and select proper tools, materials and equipment for machine set up as specified in job requirements.
- Complete the initial stage of the Quality Assurance Record.
- Perform and abide by all set up procedures in regards to heater slot units, lancing units, guillotines, plate, die and carriage tooling removal and installation.
- Required to know how to operate all fin presses in OEM Department.
- Maintain equipment in proper working condition through correct use and storage.
- Perform minor maintenance such as proper lubricant levels and adjustments to machines for continuous operation.
- Complete jobs in accordance with the requirements on the work order.
- Check the fin measurements on the Quality Assurance Record.
- Prepare checklist on set up operations for quantity and identify products.
- Verify quality of process and product in all pre-brazing areas.
- Specifies material to be delivered to fin press.
- Operate electric and propane forklift trucks and chain falls.
- Identify and relocate finished materials to proper storage area.
Responsibilities
- To ensure fin meets quality standards.
- Equipment is maintained and stored to remain in correct working order.
- Ensure proper quantities are produced for each job.
- Follow all safety procedures, including use of equipment and safety devices, to ensure a safe working environment for self and co-workers.
- Ensure cleanliness of equipment and work area.
- Check quality of work performed by Grade 4 Fin Press Operator and Grade 2 Material handler as well as verify Grade 3 Expander Operator/Set up.
- All paperwork is properly completed.
- Assist Foreman in directing Fin Press Operator when required.
- Assist Foreman in training employees when required.
Education and Training
A Fin Press Set up employee, at minimum, is required to have a high school diploma or equivalent. Human Resources can determine if education and experiences are considered “equivalent”. Must be trained to operate electric and propane forklift trucks and chain falls.
