Description
The Supervisor plays a central role in managing day-to-day operations on the Department floor. This individual will lead production operators through task delegation, ensure adherence to quality standards, manage line setups, coordinate staff, and maintain 5S practices. They are pivotal in ensuring that the production process runs smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities and Accountability
Leadership & Team Management

Motivate team members to excel in their roles while ensuring adherence to policies (such as attendance, safety, quality, and respectful workplace).

Lead by example in setting clear expectations for conduct and performance.

Handle disciplinary matters in a timely manner while maintaining a respectful work environment. Progressive disciplinary matters above the written corrective action stage will be completed with support from the Department Manager.

Verify the level of skills, ensure team members are successfully trained and update the skills matrix regularly.

Complete performance reviews with new hires and team members, creating development plans in collaboration with the team member and Department Manager.

Accurately update and approve timecards daily in accordance with the Company payroll and benefit policies

Participate in the recruitment and hiring process
Operational Excellence & Quality Assurance

Oversee the application of 5S principles to maintain an organized, clean, and efficient workspace.

Perform 'first piece' quality checks to ensure products meet specifications from the outset ('first time right' principle).

Ensure that all products consistently meet established quality standards

Responsible for confirming all record keeping, reporting and any other required documentation is completed accurately within a timely manner
Workflow Coordination & Production Optimization

Review, plan and fulfill the weekly and daily production schedule in coordination with the scheduling team and Department Manager

Plan and implement rotations among operators to optimize productivity and mitigate fatigue-related risks (such as physical demands, ergonomics, etc.).

Assign team members strategically to tasks or lines based on skill sets and current needs, managing early departures or replacements as necessary.

Oversee production technicians when support is needed to achieve goals.

Collaborate with team members and other departments to identify improvement opportunities that enhance productivity or reduce costs.
Resource Management & Material Handling

Manage line setup at the start of each shift, ensuring all materials and tools are prepared in advance.

Coordinate reordering processes to maintain optimal supply levels without interrupting production flow.

Directly supervise or perform rework/repair of products as needed
Maintenance & Infrastructure Oversight

Notify Department Manager or maintenance teams about technical issues promptly.

Conduct daily line tours to review readiness of the production line and pre-emptively address potential issues.
Communication & Collaborative Problem Solving
-
Maintain open lines of communication with Department Manager, alerting them about significant issues, when necessary, serve as a liaison between production operators and management; clearly communicate team needs, achievements, and concerns.

Engage with team members in problem-solving discussions, collaborating on identifying root causes and developing effective solutions.

Support and backup management
Qualifications and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent and completion of leadership training certificate (internal or post-secondary)
Minimum 3-5 years working in a manufacturing environment with 1-2 years supervisory experience
Technical and Operational Expertise in the following:
Production Management/Planning
Directing, planning, and coordinating resources and activities to meet production specifications.
Quality Control/Assurance
Ensuring quality and consistency of goods, conducting inspections, and training staff.
Safety Procedures & Regulations
Ensuring a safe work environment and adhering to safety regulations and company policies.
Data Production and Records
Maintaining records of materials, products, and timing.
Tracking Systems and Software
Proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, MS Teams, etc.) for work processes and scheduling
Technical Proficiency
Familiarity with machinery, tools, and software used in production.
Continuous Improvement
Implementing strategies to enhance efficiency and minimize waste (e.g., Lean Department, Six Sigma).
Working Conditions
Work under pressure, attention to detail, fast pace, repetitive tasks, manual dexterity, hand-eye co-ordination, standing for extended periods, working with others, problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, significant use of memory, continuous learning.
