Our client is looking for an experienced Controller to lead the full scope of accounting and financial oversight for their business in Ottawa, Ontario. This role will guide reporting, budgeting, cash management, compliance, and audit activities while providing clear financial insight to senior leadership. The successful candidate will help strengthen internal controls, support strategic decision-making, and ensure the organization maintains accurate and timely financial operations.
Responsibilities:
- Direct day-to-day accounting activities, including oversight of the general ledger, payables, reconciliations, and period-end close processes.
- Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with corporate reporting standards.
- Create executive and board-level financial packages that highlight performance trends, risks, and key business insights.
- Coordinate tax-related obligations and statutory filings in partnership with external advisors, including year-end reporting and required information returns.
- Oversee cash flow planning, liquidity monitoring, banking relationships, and compliance with borrowing arrangements and lender expectations.
- Contribute to financing initiatives by supporting credit facility renewals, lender reporting, and covenant tracking.
- Lead the annual budgeting cycle and ongoing forecasting activities, using financial analysis to guide planning and cost management.
- Manage external audit preparation and delivery, ensuring documentation and reporting requirements are completed on schedule.
- Strengthen finance operations by implementing internal controls, reinforcing risk management practices, and identifying opportunities for automation and process improvement.
Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, including leadership responsibility within a controllership or similar function.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, taxation, cash management, and internal control practices.
- Experience working with accounting software platforms and financial reporting tools such as Crystal Reports.
- Familiarity with payroll administration, daily cash oversight, and broader accounting operations in a corporate environment.
- Ability to prepare clear financial analysis and ad hoc reporting for executives, lenders, and other stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of lender reporting, covenant compliance, and audit coordination is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
