We are a small children's start-up business, launching in September. I would like to have a list of 2-3 assistants/instructors that I can call on when our craft classes are taking place. Whoever is available could take the short shift being offered, which would last between 1-3 hours.
We have 3 venues - two in North York, and one in Weston Village.
Over the next few weeks, we'll be hosting some demo classes at different venues, for marketing purposes. I'd like to start connecting with potential instructors now, so that I can find the right fit for more hours in September.
What are the demo classes?
A paid trial where you'll arrive 30 minutes before the class to get oriented, then assist through the one-hour class itself (90 minutes total). If clean-up runs long, you're free to head out - I'll wrap up on my own.
Pay: $35 flat rate for the 90-minute trial session. If it's a good fit going forward, ongoing fall hours are paid at $23.50/hr.
What we're looking for:
- Comfortable and warm with children and youth in a group setting
- Prior experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting preferred
- Some experience in arts and crafts preferred - some projects are STEM-based and require a level of coordination and precision to execute well
- 2+ years professional experience with children required (ECE, nannying, camp counselor, tutoring, teaching, etc.).
- Comfortable and confident interacting with parents asking questions about their child or our program
-Enthusiasm for arts and crafts along with the patience to guide young learners through creative processes
- Reliable and ON TIME - crucial that you have reliable transportation to the venue locations
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred for demo sessions; will become a requirement if hired for the Fall sessions
- A vulnerable sector check will be required if hired for the Fall sessions (but I will reimburse you for that fee).
Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing materials and setting up craft tables
- Support children during craft activities, providing guidance, encouragement, and supervision to ensure safety and engagement
- Instructors will take turns leading the craft lessons - will provide you with written instructions ahead of time so you feel prepared for the short lesson
- Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment, including cleaning up supplies and materials after each session
- Help manage classroom behavior by promoting positive interactions and supporting inclusive participation for all children, including those with disabilities
- Communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff to ensure a smooth and enjoyable class experience
- Support the implementation of early childhood education principles by encouraging creativity, fine motor skills, and basic educational concepts (in science, technology, engineering, math, art) through craft projects
**Availability Required:
Our regular fall classes run:
Saturdays - 8:45am - 11:45am
Wednesdays - 3:45pm - 6:45pm
Thursdays - 4:00pm - 5:00pm
Please only reply if you're generally available during these windows - demo timing will vary, but ongoing hours will be within these three slots.
Good fit for:
Someone looking for a few casual extra hours (max 7-10 hours/week), not a primary income source. Ideal for an ECE student, someone in a related field, a stay-at-home parent or a retiree looking to earn some extra money .
This is not suitable for someone needing reliable full-time or primary income, as hours are limited and offered first-come, first-served across our small team.
