Job Overview
Garrett Log Services is seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Log Scaler to join our forestry and timber management team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately measuring, recording, and inspecting logs to ensure compliance with industry standards and client specifications. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, heavy equipment operation, and construction principles. The Log Scaler plays a vital part in maintaining quality control throughout the logging process, ensuring efficient and sustainable timber utilization.
Responsibilities
- Measure and record log dimensions, species, and quality using specialized tools and techniques.
- Inspect logs for defects, damage, or irregularities to determine grade and value.
- Operate heavy equipment such as skidders, loaders, or forklifts safely to move logs as needed.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, and GIS technology for precise measurement and data collection.
- Conduct site assessments related to landscape maintenance and forest health.
- Maintain accurate logs of measurements and inspections for reporting purposes.
- Assist with general maintenance of equipment and work areas to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Follow all safety protocols related to construction sites, heavy machinery operation, and environmental regulations.
Experience
- Prior experience in mechanical knowledge, construction, or forestry is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with heavy equipment operation and landscape maintenance is advantageous.
- Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, GIS technology, and commercial driving enhances suitability for the role.
- Knowledge of maintenance procedures for machinery and equipment is beneficial.
- Previous work involving measurement standards within logging or timber industries is a plus.
