What will you do as a Group Controller?
The Group Controller is responsible for managing all aspects of the company's finance and accounting operations worldwide . The successful candidate will provide leadership and coordination in the administrative, accounting and tax services of the company. The Group Controller reports to the VP of Finance and oversees the Regional Controllers and Accounting Manager, while working closely with the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team. The Group Controller is an integral part of the Financial Control Team.
The Group Controller interacts internally with the various department managers as well as regional leaders. (S)He will support planning initiatives and will participate in the annual budgeting process and is responsible for communicating changes in estimates to the FP&A team. The Group Controller is responsible for issuing the financial reporting to the senior executives and parent company, and for tax compliance and effective transfer pricing strategy deployment world-wide.
The Group Controller supervises the Regional Controllers/Accounting Managers that are responsible for North America (based in Burnaby, Canada), for Europe (based in Berlin, Germany) and for Asia (based in Suzhou, PR China). The Group Controller will also interact externally with the company’s auditors, insurance agents, banks, parent company, government agencies, suppliers and various customers.
Typical duties include:
Oversee the worldwide accounting functions of the company and its foreign subsidiaries (financial, payroll, cost and tax accounting), including monthly financial statements and various reports, along with parent company reporting and monthly commentary.
Seeks opportunities to continuously optimize the use of metrics and dashboards.
Responsible for all aspects of worldwide payroll integrity; overseeing payroll Administrator at Head Office in Burnaby, and Regional controllers for APAC and EMEA.
Effectively manage payment authorizations, banking and insurance, and develop a strategy for the treasury function
Ensures payroll integrity and compliance worldwise by overseeing the Payroll Administrator for Canada & USA and Regional Controllers in EMEA and APAC, and monitoring service levels of external payroll providers
Manage the tax planning function, including tax compliance strategies in each jurisdiction and roll out transfer pricing policies and procedures to minimize taxes on a world-wide basis.
Oversee the external audit function to ensure efficient audit at a reasonable cost with minimal audit recommendations or adjustments.
Coordinate Board of Directors activities including financial and operational reports.
What you need to be successful
University degree in accounting, finance or business administration
CA, CMA or CGA accounting designation
8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in financial leadership roles; ideally with some early career experience at a Big-4 firm.
Highly (internal) customer-focused
Previous work experience with G-Suite is an asset; candidate must be confident in an online collaborative work environment and be comfortable driving change
Experience with Netsuite is a considerable asset
Experience in/with payroll processing, manufacturing and inventory processes are considered assets
Strong supervisory and interpersonal skills
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required
