Summary
The Spraying Assistant is responsible for supporting the health and productivity of greenhouse crops through Integrated Pest Management (IPM), pesticide application, equipment maintenance, and team leadership. This position oversees daily spraying activities, ensures compliance with health and safety regulations, and provides training and guidance to team members. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a physically demanding greenhouse environment.
Job Duties
- Support and implement Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs.
- Assist with biological control and crop protection initiatives as required.
- Safely mix, prepare, and apply pesticides and other crop protection products according to manufacturer guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain all required application records and documentation.
- Operate, calibrate, clean, inspect, and maintain spray equipment.
- Ensure all spray equipment is functioning properly and safely prior to use.
- Leadership & Team Support
- Train, coach, and guide team members on scouting, spraying, and safe work procedures.
- Support the Spraying Coordinator with daily operational requirements.
Requirements Education & Experience
- Previous greenhouse, agriculture, horticulture, IPM, scouting, or crop protection preferred.
- Previous supervisory, lead hand, or foreman experience is considered an asset.
- Valid Pesticide Grower Certificate, or willingness and ability to obtain certification.
- Spanish language is an asset
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of pesticide handling, application, and safety procedures.
- Experience with spray equipment operation, calibration, and maintenance preferred.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to accurately complete reports and maintain records.
- Must be available to work early morning, weekends and statutory holidays as needed to support business operations.
