Position Summary
The Seasonal Maintenance Attendant supports the safe, clean, and efficient operation of Severn Lodge Resort. This role is responsible for daily maintenance tasks, basic repairs, preventative maintenance, grounds upkeep, and responding to service calls across guest areas, staff accommodations, docks/grounds, and back-of-house spaces. The ideal candidate is reliable, hands-on, safety-focused, and able to work independently while supporting a team environment.
Key Responsibilities Daily Maintenance & Repairs
- Complete routine maintenance tasks and minor repairs (basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, drywall patching, hardware replacement, and basic electrical tasks where permitted).
- Respond to guest and staff work orders in a timely and professional manner.
- Perform inspections of rooms, common areas, and equipment; report concerns to the Maintenance Manager.
- Assist with seasonal turnover preparation and ongoing upkeep throughout the operating season.
Preventative Maintenance
- Support preventative maintenance programs for buildings, cabins/rooms, and common areas.
- Maintain and service tools and equipment; keep maintenance areas clean and organized.
- Assist with seasonal checks and winterization preparation tasks as assigned.
Grounds & Equipment Operation (Required)
- Operate and maintain grounds equipment safely and efficiently, including lawn mowers, weed eaters (trimmers), and chain saws.
- Complete mowing, trimming, brush clearing, leaf cleanup, and general property appearance tasks.
- Identify and address exterior maintenance needs and safety concerns (walkways, steps, railings, docks, and outdoor common areas).
Dock & Waterfront Support
- Assist with basic dock area upkeep and safe, orderly waterfront operations as assigned.
- Support guest needs related to waterfront set-up and general area readiness (within role scope).
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow safe work practices and use PPE as required.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of fuels, oils, and maintenance materials.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and support emergency response needs as scheduled.
Team Communication
- Coordinate with housekeeping, front desk, and management to prioritize maintenance needs.
- Provide clear updates on work order status, completed tasks, and materials required.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous maintenance/groundskeeping experience required; resort or hospitality experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience operating lawn mowers, weed eaters (trimmers), and chain saws is required.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to complete repairs efficiently.
- Comfortable using hand and power tools; basic knowledge of plumbing/electrical/carpentry is an asset.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Professional attitude and ability to interact respectfully with guests and coworkers.
- Boating license is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license is an asset (if applicable to resort operations).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical work (bending, kneeling, climbing stairs/ladders, and working outdoors in varying conditions).
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Schedule & Availability
- Must be available from early May through Thanksgiving weekend.
- Weekend availability is required.
- Shifts may vary based on operational needs and may include evenings or on-call coverage during peak periods.
Staff Accommodations
- Staff accommodations are available for the season, subject to availability and resort guidelines.
- Employees are expected to maintain clean, respectful shared living spaces and follow housing rules.
