As the successful candidate, you will be:
Participating in/conducting field programs in terrestrial, freshwater aquatic, and marine settings (e.g., environmental monitoring/management activities, fish and fish habitat assessments, fish salvage, intertidal and marine surveys, water quality monitoring/sampling, benthic invertebrate sampling, sediment sampling, vegetation surveys, and wildlife surveys)
Working on various types of projects supporting Metals & Minerals, Energy, and Infrastructure industries
Providing logistical and equipment management support
Contributing as a crew member in field programs
Providing quality control during field data collection and subsequent data entry
Following safety requirements during field operations and contributing to Hatch’s safety culture
Assisting with office-based tasks, including proposal writing, background research, and technical report preparation
Performing physically demanding work in various weather conditions
You bring to the role:
Technical Diploma (Fish and Wildlife Technician), B.Sc. in Biology or equivalent program (Biologist), or appropriate field-specific training
Excellent technical writing and communication skills
Excellent time management skills
Strong commitment to health and safety
Understanding of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems within BC
Understanding of various survey, sampling, and data collection techniques (e.g., ecosystems, vegetation, wildlife and wildlife habitat, fish and fish habitat, water quality, benthic invertebrates, sediment) in freshwater, marine and terrestrial environments
Working knowledge and proficiency in the use of basic field navigation and survey equipment such as GPS, compass, clinometer, water quality meters, etc.
Positive attitude, self-motivated with strong initiative and ability to work effectively in a team environment
Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license
Ideally, you will also have:
Experience with avian, vegetation, fisheries, and/or marine surveys (an asset)
Experience operating in remote locations (an asset)
Level 1 First Aid certificate with CPR and AED (preferred)
Backpack electrofishing certification (preferred)
Swift water rescue technician certification (preferred)
UTV and snowmobile operator certifications (preferred)
Small Vessel Operator Proficiency Certificate (preferred)
