Founded in 1909, Nordstrong Equipment Limited (NEL) is a company with a long history of providing bulk material handling equipment and solutions to agriculture and industrial customers. We are an industry leader in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of robust, high-performance bulk material handling solutions. In addition to our custom-designed product, we also design and manufacture a full line of hoisting equipment for truck dump body applications under the NORDIC trade name.
Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, NEL is searching for a Mechanical Designer who is passionate about lifelong learning and interested in collaborating directly with our customers.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Design screw, drag conveyors, bucket elevators, belt conveyors, gates and valves using industry specific knowledge.
- Work in the engineering department as a member of our engineering design staff with the long-term prospect of becoming senior designer or product lead.
- Involved in all aspects of the development and design of Nordstrong’s various manufactured products using SolidWorks & AutoCAD to create drawings for part pieces, weldments, and assemblies, including preparing the job card (BOM) that will be issued to the plant for manufacturing.
- Liaise with Sales, Manufacturing, and the end customer to ensure specifications are interpreted & followed.
- Determine best engineering/design practices and communicate with peers.
Qualification and Experience:
- Preferred experience designing screw, drag conveyors, bucket elevators, belt conveyor, gates and valves and other agricultural equipment.
- Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Engineer-in-Training or Mechanical Engineering Technologist Proficient in SolidWorks and working knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Understanding of manufactured equipment including welding, fabrication, and power transmission design.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment that involves the transformation of steel (machining, cutting, shearing, welding, painting, and assembly) into finished equipment.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and interpreting customer specifications.
- Proficient in all MS Office (primarily Excel & Word) applications.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience.
