RESPONSIBLE FOR: **Investigation case files administration and management, conducting investigations and marketing offered investigative services on behalf of Kingston & Region Division.

JOB SUMMARY: Working out of Kingston, the Chief Investigator will lead of a team of subcontracted investigators operating throughout Eastern Ontario. Working collaboratively with the Director Special Services, this position manages a broad spectrum of investigative activities in order to deliver timely, relevant products to our clients. The Chief Investigator will oversee insurance Investigations (fraud/theft/arson/accident benefit/liability), subrogation, surety and fidelity claims, fibre break investigations, fire scene security, litigation support, Open Source and Social Media checks, surveillance, threat-risk assessments and client-driven special project support. In consultation with senior management, the Chief Investigator will lead the effort to market the Company’s investigative services in order to enhance and create business opportunities with current and targeted consumers. The Chief Investigator will also be responsible to train and mentor the investigator pool.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Promoting Commissionaires’ services to attract new clients and investigation files by working closely with insurance companies, law firms, partner Divisions and other clients.

Responsible for establishing and maintaining quality control in the gathering, preparation and presentation of reports and associated evidence.

Liaising with police, security and other agencies as required in the performance of duties.

Developing procedures and, when required, proposing new related forms or amendments to current forms.

To understand and comply with current Acts, Legislation, privacy issues and legal limitations related to investigations and surveillance.

Understanding and complying with current PSIS Act of Ontario and other relevant Acts and Statutes.

Understanding and complying with regulations for safeguarding sensitive documentsIdentifying the requirement when to expand the subcontracted investigator pool.

Identifying the training requirements of newly-hired investigators and to provide the necessary training.

Assisting in the development of staff by promoting a motivating work environment, participating in and assisting with appropriate training and guidance when requested.

Promoting a team environment and spirit that enhances both team and individual performance.

Assisting in providing effective and relevant feedback with regard to specific areas of investigations and promoting inter-group reaction to unusual or rare events.

Educating and creating investigation and crime awareness training to clients upon request

Weekly e-mail progress report to be issued to the Director of Special Services

Identify related professional associations for membership

EDUCATION

Post-secondary education in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Strong English language writing and speaking skills

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION OR LICENSES

Holds a valid provincial Private Investigator Security License

Possesses a reliable vehicle currently licensed for business/commercial purposes

Clean driving record

JOB KNOWLEDGE OR WORK EXPERIENCE

Extensive field investigative work experience

Special Investigation Unit (Insurance) experience desirable

Ability to work independently

Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Skilled written communicator

Extensive report writing experience desirable

Knowledge of the Canadian justice system, insurance law and privacy legislation desirable

Knowledge of threat risk assessment processes desirable

Knowledge of Open Source Info (OSINT) investigation desirable

ENVIRONMENT/WORK CONDITIONS

Background check required

Must be able to respond swiftly to client requests and be able to travel within the area of responsibility; evening, weekend and holiday work may be required
