FCL invites applications for the position of Director, Transportation Operations in our home office located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

The Director, Transportation Operations is responsible for creating the long term (3-5 year) vision and strategy for the Transportation Operations. Lead and direct inbound and outbound transportation initiatives and team related to transportation systems and fleet management. Regular collaboration with the Regional transportation operations teams providing guidance and input to ensure operations are being conducted in the safest, most efficient and effective manner possible. Provide leadership, input and guidance on safety and training initiatives related to transportation to the Regional Logistics Directors and Regional transportation operations teams. Regular collaboration with the Director - Logistics Operations, Regional Logistics Directors and Senior Manager - Distribution Center Operations to ensure business unit objectives are met and future planning initiatives are being developed. Manage the overall budget process and prepare consolidated budgets related to Transportation functions. Annual Travel: Approximately 20%

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, Logistics, responsibilities for this position include the following:

Provide leadership direction and guidance towards the full utilization of the Transportation Management System (TMS) to efficiently manage freight operations within FCL. Guide, support and provide input and conclusive recommendations on inbound and outbound transportation operations within the Distribution Centers. Monitor regularly to ensure set performance targets are being achieved, and cost effectiveness is maintained. Lead and participate in monthly meetings with the Distribution Centers and Home Office transportation teams to ensure on going communication and efficiency in the Transportation function.
Provide input and guidance related to inbound, outbound and inter regional product movement on FCL, private and third party carrier for all commodities. Ensure all transportation lanes are running as cost effective as possible by ensuring effective and balanced schedules are used and backhauls related to FCL owned product are incorporated into routes, where available.
Lead and collaborate with the Regional transportation operations team to provide corrective actions when customer failures occur. Act as the main point of contact between commodities and transportation operations that affect distribution operations on strategic issues related to inbound product arrival and customer failures. Provide solutions to failures for complex cases. Guide investigations, by providing oversight in investigation of customer failures, and develop process/procedural improvements for implementation.
Provide oversight to the Regional transportation operations teams related to Safety and Training strategies and initiatives for lease operators and company drivers. Lead monthly review of transportation safety metrics and continually promote a culture of safety within transportation operations to ensure safety guidelines/standards/regulations are adhered to. Ensure safety goals are being met and set targets and objectives related to lagging/leading indicator improvements.
Provide leadership, direction, input and guidance to direct reports, Regional Logistics Directors and transportation operations teams regarding employee annual goal setting and quarterly reviews. Lead annual performance evaluations for direct reports. Set and approve development plans for direct reports and leads the review of direct reports for the annual department employee pre-calibration and business unit calibration sessions. Provide feedback and support in all indirect evaluations.
Consolidate, submit and present budget for final approval and manage departmental operating and capital expenditures by monitoring budget impacts and assessing all variances. Responsible for administering function 36 (Transportation - Approx. 40 million).

The successful candidate will have a Degree in Business or Engineering. 10+ years of leadership experience in the transportation industry and/or distribution center operations. CCLP (CITT-Certified Logistics Professional) or equivalent designation is considered an asset.

A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
