Want to work in Addiction and Mental Health? We are currently looking for Health Care and Mental Health Aides to join our inpatient float teams located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Our programs are dynamic, fast-paced, and patient/family centered, where all members of the interdisciplinary team work within the collaborative care (CoACT) framework. Reporting to the Relief Team Program Manager, Unit Manager and working under the direction of nursing, the psychiatric/mental health aide performs activities that support meeting the personal care needs and comforts of patients: in accordance with patient care plans and hospital policies and procedures. This includes (but is not limited to) assisting in the provision of routine care to meet patient’s hygiene, nutrition, vital sign monitoring mobility, recreation and safety needs. You will also assist in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients & families, staff and visitors. Off campus patient escort duties may be assigned. Essentially, you will be supporting nursing and other clinical staff to carry out quality, evidenced based care.
As a Mental Health Aide, you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team to provide a welcoming and safe care environment. You will assist in the provision of direct patient/client care as delegated in a person-centered, recovery oriented and safe manner. In this position, you will assist and / or promote independence to patients/clients in completing activities of daily living as well as assisting other health professionals with providing treatments and observing and reporting relevant patient/client information to professional staff. You will assist new patients/clients and families with orientation, and assist in the general support of the work area.

Post-secondary education in social sciences, psychology or health services. Personal Support Aide, Health Care Aide or Mental Health Aide Certificate (equivalencies may be considered). Minimum 2 years’ experience working with persons with an addiction and/or mental health issue – preferably in a hospital setting.
