Staff Plus is currently recruiting experienced Manufacturing Operators for two opportunities within a steel manufacturing facility.
We are looking for candidates with several years of hands-on manufacturing experience, strong mechanical aptitude and experience working around industrial equipment. Previous experience in steel, aluminum, automotive, heavy equipment or a similar industrial manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
These are not entry-level production positions and previous food production experience alone would not be considered equivalent to the industrial manufacturing experience required.
There are currently opportunities within both the Slitting and Assembly departments.
Slitting Operator
Pay: $25.43-$30.38/hr
Night Shift Premium: $0.80/hr
Schedule: Continental rotating 12-hour shifts, rotating between days and nights approximately every two weeks.
- Day Shift: 7:00 AM start
- Night Shift: 7:00 PM start
What You'll Do
- Set up, program and operate automatic and manual slitting equipment
- Review work orders and machine setup requirements
- Verify coil numbers, material information and production specifications
- Monitor equipment and troubleshoot machine or process issues
- Operate an overhead bridge crane to position and move materials
- Use measuring and inspection tools to verify dimensions and tolerances
- Coordinate material handling and changeovers to maintain production flow
- Monitor product quality and identify defects or non-conformances
- Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in safe working condition
- Complete production documentation accurately
- Work closely with material handlers, operators and production leadership
What You Need:
- Minimum 5 years of manufacturing or production experience
- Previous experience in steel, aluminum, automotive, heavy machinery or a comparable industrial manufacturing environment strongly preferred
- Counterbalance forklift certification
- Crane certification
- Basic mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting ability
- Experience using RF scanners
- Ability to read and follow work orders and production instructions
- Comfortable working with industrial machinery in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Able to work rotating 12-hour continental day and night shifts
Previous slitting equipment or steel processing experience would be a strong asset.
Assembly Operator
Pay: $23.64-$27.85/hr
Afternoon Shift Premium: $0.45/hr
Available Shifts:
- Days: 7:00 AM-3:00 PM
- Afternoons: 3:00 PM-11:00 PM
As an Assembly Operator, you will assemble transformer core components using steel laminations while working from instructions, drawings and specifications. Precision is important in this position, including accurate stacking and alignment of steel components and the use of measuring equipment to verify dimensions and tolerances.
What You'll Do:
- Assemble steel components according to work instructions, drawings and blueprints
- Accurately stack, align and position steel laminations
- Use calipers, micrometers and rulers to verify dimensions and tolerances
- Install supports, clamps and other required components
- Operate lifting devices, hoists and overhead cranes
- Perform visual and dimensional quality inspections
- Identify and report defects or non-conforming material
- Review production requirements and prepare tools and materials
- Complete production documentation and checklists
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Work with production, material handling, quality and engineering teams as required
What You Need:
- 5-7 years of manufacturing or production experience
- Previous experience in steel, aluminum, automotive, heavy machinery or a comparable industrial manufacturing environment strongly preferred
- Forklift certification
- Overhead crane certification
- Strong mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skills
- Strong math and measurement skills
- Experience using calipers, micrometers and rulers
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, drawings, blueprints or schematics
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
Physical and Work Environment
Both positions are based in an industrial manufacturing environment and require employees to wear appropriate PPE.
Candidates must be comfortable with:
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Repetitive movements
- Bending and crouching
- Working around machinery and industrial noise
- Handling tools and machine components
- Lifting up to 50 lbs, as required
