Job Summary
This is a Labour & Employee Relations specialist role focused on workplace investigations, grievance handling, disciplinary processes, and compliance with employment legislation in unionized and non-unionized environments. This role does not involve people management or operational supervision.
This role is NOT a line management or team leadership position and does not involve direct supervision of operational teams.
Job Duties
- Identify potential employee relations challenges and implement solutions to foster a positive, compliant, and productive work environment.
- Assist in managing urgent employee relations issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimizing impact on employees and operations.
- Contribute to projects that enhance employee experience across sites and support initiatives that improve engagement and satisfaction.
- Analyze data and case examples to guide decision-making and measure the effectiveness of HR programs.
- Prepare clear written communications and support the development and delivery of training sessions to educate and empower employees.
- Collaborate with managers, team leads, and employees to drive positive outcomes and strengthen workplace relationships.
- Navigate complex or ambiguous situations with judgment, escalating when necessary to maintain fairness and compliance.
- Periodically visit operational sites to observe employee interactions, provide support, and ensure HR compliance standards are met.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on employee relations experience managing investigations, grievances, and disciplinary processes in a unionized or high-volume operational environment.
- Experience supporting HR or ER initiatives and contributing to programs that improve employee experience.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- Experience delivering training or coaching under supervision.
- Comfortable in dynamic environments; able to manage shifting priorities.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including facilitation support.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Experience working with unionized environments and supporting labor relations matters is an asset.
