Position Summary
Reporting to the Director, Stampede Programming the Stampede Programming Manager will work with managers, employees, customers, and stakeholders to successfully develop and execute the strategic vision of the Calgary Stampede guest experience through innovative and exciting programming.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Provide guidance and strategic leadership to execute the functions of the programming department in alignment with the Calgary Stampede strategic plan.
- Design universal guest experience strategies for programming during the 10-day Stampede and establish optimal guest experience sequences and implement on-Park experience product.
- Lead Park zoning for the purpose of optimizing guest experiences and increasing length-of-stay and per-capita spending.
- Aid in the creation and implementation of a strategy to increase gate attendance and revenues through a cohesive entertainment strategy, including all feature and ambient entertainment products.
- Work with research suppliers and partners to create and implement a strategy to collect and share product, marketing and experiential data related to all aspects of the Stampede for the purpose of review, reflection and future development.
- Manage, direct and motivate and delegate responsibilities to employees within the programming and production design teams, including employee performance management.
- Liaise closely with other internal departments to ensure programming elements are completely integrated with the physical layout of the Park, including the creation of unique programming opportunities that align the Calgary Stampede’s and the stakeholders individual objectives.
- Oversee production of multiple, high-level internal, external, and volunteer events.
- Engage and negotiate several contracts annually that provide multiple services to the Calgary Stampede including general contractors, consultants, engineers, headline artists, and variety entertainers for the enhancement of Stampede Programming.
- Effectively manage multi-million-dollar budgets to achieve the best use of resources to deliver revenue, exceptional programming and guest experiences.
- Develop and share Calgary Stampede best practice programming standards.
- Work with numerous volunteer committees, either directly or through supervised staff, to deliver exceptional programming that represents the Calgary Stampede brand and aligns to the organization’s strategic goals.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on the strategy and implementation of special Stampede promotions and events for the purpose of raising awareness of the annual Calgary Stampede to local, regional, national and international audiences.
- Budget development, accountability and maximization
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic and have the ability to multitask. They will have at least an undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Tourism, Arts and Entertainment Management, or other related field from an accredited university, as well as the following:
- Eight plus years of experience in a project management and leadership role, with preference given those with experience in entertainment, tourism, live events, retail, attractions or performing arts industries
- Exceptional communication and time management skills with the ability to prioritize.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Ability to develop, motivate and work towards a common goal and vision.
- Experience working both independently and, in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Experience in the design, implementation, and evaluation of programming strategies.
- Advanced knowledge of management practices within the entertainment, live events, tourism, or performing arts industries.
- Familiarity with The Calgary Stampede’s consumer experience offerings.
- Experience planning and executing on entertainment programs, live events, performing arts, retail, and/or attractions.
- Ability to work irregular hours due to activities of the Programming Department, especially leading up to and during the annual 10-day Stampede event.
This position takes place in an office environment and on the Park. Involves repetitive arm, hand and finger movement. Occasional lifting and carrying up to 20 lb., pushing, crouching, bending, kneeling and reaching. Daily stair climbing, occasional exposure to noise, dust, animal dander and changes in temperature. Regular need for sensory attention, including adequate visual acuity is required.
