Delivery Truck Driver – Parts Department
Location: Waterford, Ontario
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Start Time: 7:00 a.m.
End Time: Varies based on deliveries and operational requirements; business closes at 5:00 p.m.
Position Summary
The Delivery Truck Driver is responsible for the safe, accurate, and timely transportation of automotive parts between the Waterford Parts Department, Bodyline Auto Recyclers, customers, suppliers, and other required locations throughout Hamilton, Cambridge, Brantford, Waterford, Simcoe, and surrounding areas.
This position requires more than driving. The driver is responsible for checking loads and paperwork, inspecting parts, securing cargo, meeting delivery timelines, communicating with Parts Department staff and salespeople, maintaining the delivery vehicle, and ensuring parts arrive at the correct destination safely and without damage.
The driver represents the company while on the road and must demonstrate professionalism, efficiency, good communication, and respect for customers and other employees.
Daily Responsibilities
The driver will begin work at 7:00 a.m. and is expected to be out of the gate no later than 7:45 a.m.
Before leaving, the driver must:
- Load and confirm all parts, pickups, returns, and required paperwork.
- Check in with the Waterford Parts Department and applicable salespeople.
- Confirm special instructions and delivery priorities.
- Complete a documented pre-trip vehicle inspection.
- Ensure all parts are properly positioned and securely strapped.
When Hamilton deliveries are scheduled, they should generally be completed before travelling to Bodyline unless otherwise directed.
The driver is expected to arrive at Bodyline no later than 10:45 a.m.
Bodyline Responsibilities
At Bodyline, the driver must:
- Check in with Shipping/Receiving.
- Unload Bodyline parts and place them in the appropriate designated areas.
- Locate Waterford parts, runner parts, transfers, and pickups.
- Place outgoing runner parts at the correct designated runner door.
- Confirm required pickups and transfers before leaving.
The driver is expected to independently locate and organize Waterford's parts wherever reasonably possible. Bodyline employees may assist when something genuinely cannot be located or clarification is required, but they are not responsible for routinely finding, moving, organizing, or preparing the driver's parts.
Drivers should work efficiently, respect Bodyline employees' workloads, and avoid remaining onsite longer than necessary.
Deliveries, Routes & Communication
Routes may include Hamilton, Cambridge, Brantford, Waterford, Simcoe, surrounding communities, and other locations as required.
Routes may change throughout the day due to customer needs, Bodyline transfers, supplier pickups, returns, exchanges, runner schedules, or additional deliveries. A second local run may occasionally be required.
Drivers are not permitted to independently arrange personal stops, outside deliveries, customer requests, supplier pickups, or unscheduled route changes without approval from the Waterford Parts Department.
Any significant delays, missed deliveries, unavailable customers, damaged or incorrect parts, returns, or route concerns must be communicated promptly.
Loading, Part Inspection & Safety
The driver is responsible for safely transporting automotive parts of varying sizes and weights. Parts must be properly positioned and secured using appropriate straps, padding, supports, or other equipment.
Loads must never be transported if they are unsafe or improperly secured. Appropriate lifting techniques and available equipment must be used when handling heavier parts.
The driver also serves as a final quality check before parts reach customers. Before delivery, parts should be visually compared with the paperwork for:
- Correct part and destination.
- Left-hand versus right-hand applications.
- Obvious identification errors.
- Visible or undocumented damage.
- Poor-quality or questionable parts.
Any concern should be brought to the appropriate salesperson or Parts Department staff before delivery whenever reasonably possible.
Drivers should never knowingly deliver an obviously incorrect, damaged, or poor-quality part without first communicating the concern.
Vehicle Inspections & Maintenance
A documented pre-trip inspection must be completed daily, including tires, lights, mirrors, visibility, fluids, straps, safety equipment, general vehicle condition, mechanical concerns, warning lights, and body damage.
Any damage, defect, warning light, mechanical issue, or safety concern must be documented and reported. Significant concerns or new vehicle damage must also be reported to Jamie/Tyler and Gerald/Darren.
Vehicle concerns must not be ignored simply because the truck remains operational.
End-of-Day Responsibilities
Before finishing each day, the driver must:
- Return and clear all delivery paperwork.
- Report outstanding deliveries, pickups, returns, customer issues, or concerns.
- Load known parts for the following day's route whenever possible.
- Organize and clean the truck, cab, cargo area, straps, and equipment.
- Remove garbage, packaging, and unnecessary clutter.
- Fuel the truck for the following morning.
- Report any vehicle damage or mechanical concerns.
- Confirm known priorities for the next business day.
The goal is to prevent unnecessary morning delays and ensure the truck is ready to leave on time.
Time Management & Professional Conduct
Drivers are expected to maintain an efficient pace, follow planned routes, minimize unnecessary downtime, and meet delivery deadlines without compromising safety.
Efficiency does not mean speeding, unsafe driving, improper lifting, or inadequate load securement.
Drivers must be respectful and professional with customers, suppliers, Bodyline employees, runners, coworkers, and the public. Company vehicles must be operated safely and kept reasonably clean and professional.
Key Expectations
The successful driver will be dependable, punctual, organized, safety-conscious, able to work independently, comfortable handling automotive parts, competent with load securement, observant of part quality, adaptable to changing routes, and accountable for both the delivery vehicle and the parts being transported.
The Delivery Truck Driver plays an important role in the customer experience. The goal is simple: the right part, in the right condition, delivered to the right place safely and on time.
