REGISTERED EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR (RECE)
Location: Prime Time Nursery School, Midland, Ontario

Reports To: Child Care Supervisor
Position Summary
The Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) is responsible for planning and implementing a high-quality, inclusive early learning program that supports the physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and creative development of children. The RECE works collaboratively with families, colleagues, and community partners to provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 (CCEYA), Ontario Regulations, and How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years.
Key Responsibilities
Child Development and Programming
- Plan, implement, and evaluate emergent, play-based learning experiences that reflect children's interests, strengths, and developmental needs.
- Foster environments that support the four foundations of HDLH:
- Belonging
- Well-Being
- Engagement
- Expression
- Observe, document, and reflect on children's learning through pedagogical documentation.
- Support inclusion and ensure all children feel welcomed, valued, and respected.
- Promote children's independence, self-help skills, and positive social interactions.
Health, Safety, and Supervision
- Maintain constant supervision of children in accordance with CCEYA requirements.
- Ensure a safe, healthy, and inclusive environment both indoors and outdoors.
- Follow all centre policies.
- Conduct daily health and safety checks and report hazards to supervisor.
- Respond appropriately to injuries, illnesses, and emergencies.
- Complete diapering/toileting routine following procedure set out by SMDHU
Family and Community Partnerships
- Build positive and respectful relationships with families.
- Communicate regularly regarding children's experiences, development, and well-being.
- Maintain confidentiality of all children, families, and staff.
- Support family engagement opportunities and community connections.
Professional Practice
- Maintain registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE).
- Adhere to the CECE Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
- Participate in continuous professional learning and staff development opportunities.
- Collaborate effectively with co-workers, students, volunteers, and community professionals.
- Contribute to a positive, respectful, and professional workplace culture.
Documentation and Administration
- Complete observations, developmental records, attendance verification, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
- Assist with maintaining classroom records and licensing compliance documentation.
- Participate in program planning meetings and centre initiatives.
Qualifications
Required:
- Diploma in Early Childhood Education from a recognized institution.
- Current registration and membership in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
- Valid Intermediate First Aid and CPR-C certification. (formally: Standard First Aid)
- Vulnerable Sector Check acceptable to the employer.
- Up-to-date immunization records as required by policy.
- Knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) and Ontario Regulation 137/15.
Preferred:
- Experience in a licensed child care setting with children ages 12 months to 4 years.
- Knowledge of inclusive practices and supporting diverse learners.
- Confidence leading simple group songs and interactive circle time.
- Strong written and verbal communication, observation, and organizational skills.
Working Conditions
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and active participation in children's activities.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs (18 kg) when required.
- Flexible scheduling may be required.
