Insert Coin is Canada’s leading accounting & tax consulting firm for the video game industry.
Although we’re an accounting & tax firm, you’d never guess it by looking at us. We’ve adopted the same corporate culture as gaming/tech companies that we work with across Canada. We’re a modern, 100% cloud-based firm that uses the latest technology stack to deliver unparalleled service to our clients.
We provide accounting, bookkeeping and tax credit consulting services to indie game studios. Over the years we’ve built a growing, loyal customer base of gaming studios, because we get their business & industry like no other firm can.
We’re not like traditional accounting firms - there’s no suit & tie, no overtime hours, and no mind-numbing dullness that permeates the typical accounting office.
That’s why we’re not looking for a traditional accountant - we want someone who hates the idea of working obscene overtime hours, dealing with stacks of paper files & antiquated software, and working your way up the corporate ladder. We believe accounting doesn’t have to be that way, and we’re setting out to prove it.
We think and work like a startup - we believe in enjoying where you work, having fun as a team, working efficiently & collaboratively, and providing a service that clients are delighted by. We need someone who embodies these same values.
What you’ll be doing:
- Audits & Reviews - We don’t do any general financial statement audits. Instead, we focus on ‘special’ audits/reviews for project-specific funding and grants, such as CMF. You will be responsible for completing these short engagements from start to finish, with Partner review.
- Standards & Research - You will need to stay up to date with accounting & assurance standards. Since we deal with a number of funding programs, you will also be researching the audit/review requirements for them, and setting up and improving working paper templates.
What we care about:
- CPA, CA with prior audit experience in Canada - Given that this role is designed for minimal supervision, you need to have at least 3-5 years of experience doing assurance engagements at a small or midsize firm. Bonus points if you’ve been responsible for the entire engagement lifecycle.
- Communication - while you may have enjoyed all your accounting courses, most of our clients didn’t, so they value someone who can talk to them at their level. You should be able to leave any accounting jargon at the door and explain things like a normal human. Confidence and charm go a long way.
- Attention to Detail – we care about producing a clean, beautiful set of books for our clients. To us, our trial balances and statements are works of art.
- Tech-Savvy – since all our work is done on the cloud, you should be comfortable with learning and using web and mobile apps.
- Self-starter – you require minimal supervision and take responsibility for getting the work done. We’re not big on micro-management, so you decide how and when the work gets done. We pride ourselves on providing fast, attentive service that meets or exceeds client timelines.
