Overview

This is moderately complex clerical work providing information and assistance related to bylaws and licences. An incumbent reviews a variety of sources to confirm the validity of business licences, and requests compliance; responds to parking ticket inquiries; prepares and maintains variety of records and provides typing and clerical support to the department. The work is performed under general supervision and considerable independence of judgement and action is exercised within established guidelines. Work performance is reviewed for completeness, accuracy and effective services rendered.

Responsibilities

Considerable knowledge of the departmental procedures, bylaws, rules and regulations related to the work.
Sound knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation and arithmetic and modern office practices and procedures.
Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public and staff in supplying information and in explaining and interpreting bylaws and regulations as related to the work performed.
Ability to perform typing and clerical assignments, and maintain files and records related to the work.
Ability to make decisions in accordance with established rules, policies and procedures.
Ability to operate common office appliances and a computer terminal.
