Reports to: Global Communications Officer
The Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM) would like to recruit the services of non-union voice actors to be contracted for paid work throughout the year to contribute to our activities within the Strengthening Midwifery Services Project Phase 2 (SMS II) in South Sudan.
The Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM) is the national organization representing midwives and the profession of midwifery in Canada. CAM believes that midwives play a unique and fundamental role in promoting sexual health and reproductive rights and in the provision of quality reproductive, maternal, and newborn health care – both in Canada, and internationally. For over a decade, CAM’s Global Program has been working with other national midwifery associations and other partners in low and middle-income countries to strengthen the profession of midwifery and to increase the quantity and quality of midwives available, in order to empower women and girls and improve maternal and neonatal health outcomes.
The 5-year Strengthening Midwifery Services in South Sudan phase 2 (SMSII) project, supported by Global Affairs Canada, is led by the UNFPA in partnership with South Sudan’s Ministry of Health and Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM). CAM will provide direct peer-to-peer mentoring support and technical expertise from practicing Canadian midwives, as well as other MNCH professionals.
The project consists primarily of training midwives, nurses, and other health workers at National Health Science Institutes across the country. While there are currently four of such training institutes, the number is currently being expanded to seven. The project also works to improve the ability of the Ministry of Health to manage and regulate the education and work of midwives.
