The regulated pharmacy technician as a health care professional supports the role of the pharmacist through the safe and efficient management of all aspects of drug distribution that do not require the pharmacists clinical knowledge, skills and judgment. This primary role is accomplished through the application of knowledge pertaining to the practical, legal, and procedural aspects of drug distribution.

Position Responsibilities

  • Practicing the 3 meter Attitude. • Collaborating to meet patient health care needs, goals and outcomes. • Receives new or repeat prescriptions, creates and maintains patient records. • Assesses prescription for clarity, completeness, authenticity and legal requirements. • Consults with the patient, pharmacist or prescriber when required. • Determine prescription processing priority. • Alerts the pharmacist to actual and potential drug therapy related problems. • Transfers prescription authorizations to another pharmacy provider at patient’s request. • Selects appropriate products / brands. • Prepares non-sterile and or sterile products. • Packages and labels products to maintain integrity and meet legislative requirements. • Manage the drug distribution system to contribute maintenance of safe and effective systems of drug supply and distribution: e.g. unit dose, stock, automated distribution, compliance packaging, following distribution policies & procedures. • Contribute to safe & effective systems of drug supply and distribution areas or processes practiced at your pharmacy. • Recognize and respond to unusual patterns of drug distribution including drug misuse, and fluctuations in utilization. • Determine and maintain inventory requirements sufficient for patient safety and efficient operations. • Audit inventory (based on regulations, policies and procedures) and report discrepancies to the pharmacist. E.g. narcotics, controlled drugs and targeted substances. Additional Responsibilities • Adheres to all company policies and standard operating procedures. • Other responsibilities may be assigned.

Qualifications

Mathematical Skills • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. • Calibration of equipment used in the prescription filling process • Reconstitution of powdered and other forms of medications Basic Reading/Writing Skills • Ability to understand the meaning of written or printed matter and to record information. • Ability to read prescriptions (Doctor's handwriting). Communication Skills • Ability to communicate effectively to maximize accuracy in the delivery of patient care.

Licensing & Other Qualifications

The Associate must complete all Wal-Mart Basic and Advanced Training Modules and classes
